I was pointing out that the WTA have approved an indoor tournament near to a GS before. The WTA will approve any surface and if the tournament is indoors or outdoors if the price is right.

If Bali was coming back it would have come back by now which is a shame.

Another point is that I think the tournament will get a top 10 player, not too sure who but lucky them!

Re: Tournament in Shenzhen?

I've done the transfer to Shenzhen from Hong Kong's airport both using ferry and car, both very easy. If it's true that the WTA sends a private car to pick up every player and coach, then I think convenience is not going to be an issue for this tournament. There are certainly more direct flights to Hong Kong from Europe and North America than to somewhere like Auckland or Chennai. The issue is whether the WTA actually informs players that the tournament is right next to Hong Kong.

Re: Tournament in Shenzhen?

Why not take a plane directly to Shenzhen, it;s easy. Why need to insist on going to Hong Kong first then transfer to China??

Car is only easy if you hold a Chinese, MFM, and HKG Passport (You can go through directly in a car). It's not easy for others who have to go through immigration there.

Is there any non-stop flight fly directly to Europe from Shenzhen? Transiting in Hong Kong (or even Seoul/Tokyo) > Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai

Re: Tournament in Shenzhen?

I don't get the fuss about the transportation getting to Auckland from Europe is probably more difficult, at least one stopover is required and thats only LHR-AKL (via HKG or LAX). Most other routes requires 2 stops.

Re: Tournament in Shenzhen?

I think adding in another wta event this week is awesome for the lower ranked players....cut offs will drop especially at Auckland and hopefully Brisbane qualies and will allow players 180-250 to actually play some tennis before ao qualies, I think it will also help improve the cut off for ao qualies as someone said in here earlier they are not coming all that way for possibly one match...

Hopefully Na Li plays here... not sure apart from Wozniacki that they would get any of the other top 10s here.... Sharapova, Williams, Radwanksa and Stosur are already committed to Brisbane/Auckland..

Interesting that Zheng Jie has also committed to Auckland over playing here...

Good luck to the West Aussies in 2013!:
Casey Dellacqua Jessica Moore Bojana Bobusic Storm Sanders
as well as Jelena Dokic Sam Stosur Sally Peers Ash Barty Olivia Rogowska Monique Adamczak Sacha Jones Rodionova Sisters Tammi Patterson Vicky Rajicic Azra Hadzic Alison Bai
|
And all the other aussie girls

I'm American and all I had to do was hand my passport to the driver, who handed it to the guy in the border booth. Didn't even need to get out of the car.

Of course, you have to clear HK immigration too but that's no different than clearing immigration at any other airport.

Last time (2011) I got rejected from going through driving while holding an US Passport, but that was in Macau (though they shouldn't be any different). Maybe inconsistencies in the officers?
