Sloane only shows up for the slams...doesn't care about these local tournaments

Epic comeback for Mel, great effort!

But on the other hand, a really strange collapse from Sloane. You would not expect a bagel final set. That indicates an issue with the mental side of her game that will have to be addressed.

Agnieszka Radwanska Vera Zvonareva • Laura Robson • Donna Vekic Heather WatsonElina Svitolina Melanie Oudin • Andrea Petkovic

Hopefully Melanie didn't hit a ball too close to Sloane, or else Sloane might yap about it to the media.

She got a lucky draw and didn't beat anyone inside the top 40.

Not so unlikely for a seeded player... Azarenka and Woznacki both played the 4R under the same circumstances..

Sure but both are proven top players with tons of big wins and etc; Sloane, not so much.

It's much harder to win when one is the favorite than when one is the underdog.

Re: Carlsbad R1: Oudin def. Stephens 16 76(6) 60

She's come a loooong way...

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

I heard that Oudin played amazing tennis in the third set and Sloane collapsed mentally

No need to bring this thread up just to take a dig at Mel. Sloane dealt with the draw that was put before her and that in itself is an accomplishment.
