Yes, if they want to have 4 top 10 players playing.

500,000$ allows 2 top 10 players. Each additional top 10 player spot costs 250,000$.

1. WTA is out to get Brisbane. TA has held out forever on making it a Premier tournament - they got great entry lists due to when they were scheduled, but never had to put up the cash to up their prize money/player commitments.
2. The WTA and ITF broke off talks earlier this year about Fed Cup, and the WTA may begin to schedule tournaments the same week as Fed Cup. I wouldn't worry about Paris. It gets solid attendance and solid commitments, and has done so for years. Especially for those residing in Europe who are returning there after Australia anyway.

And Memphis has been riding on the men's half of the tourney for years - the largest disparity of a combined event in North America, almost at Estoril levels.

If the WTA is making a move against tournaments that stand alone in the calendar and lead to nothing, then they should do the same to Charleston.
FCC has been probably the most consistent sponsor of women's tennis for 40+ years -- would be incredible disloyal of the WTA to screw with the tourney even more than it has. It's a great tournament -- a great location -- and fun to attend. You have to remember, this was the first $100,000 tourney for women back in the day -- and they stayed true to that goal for many, many years.

What has come of the WTA where any country with money gets an event.

Uhh -- you got to have money to stage the events -- basic economics. And this is the WTA -- if folks in Romania, Serbia, Czech and any other place put up the money, the WTA will sanction a tournament, no matter what. They always have; they always will.

Because they have been playing small clay court tourneys in Europe after Wimbledon for 50 or more years -- they've been some fairly successful ventures, especially for the men. The women's events were most tag-alongs. Not sure why all the fuss about any of the tourneys -- it's nice to see the women have opportunities to play and earn. It's a tough life for those outside the top 100 for sure, and if you can provide opportunities to earn some cash and meet a demand, I say the more, the merrier.

Two events in Rio? They should have one in Rio and one in Sao Paulo, no?

The should move Kuala Lumpur up to the week after Pattaya city so as to have a proper Asian swing (Pattaya-KL-Doha-Dubai)
The Paris thing is stupid, only Caro and Radwanska will play that.
Cairo is a good one as Birmingham seems to be blacklisted in player's mind...

I wonder when will they show the TBD in first week is located where!?
