She plays one-dimensional, but she plays a HELL of a one-dimensional game, winning 4 slams.

what's about Nadull and his Wimbledon? did he learnt serve and volley?

what's about Serena and her Roland Garros? or Federer? They all somehow adjusted their game to be able to win this tournaments

But a great number of players didn't managed to do so , that's the difference

Sharapova 2006 or 2008 would have never won FO, now she is significantly better on clay

would you have preferred Serena or Maria winning the FO Matt? I'm just curious? Thanks.

I admit this is a tough one but I'd probably chose Serena.

I'm not denying that.

In fact, I think this is the best what Pova could have done: Playing HER game on any surface. She has improved her sliding and movement on clay a bit, but let's face it: She'll never have a great slice, variations, volleys, transition game etc.

Other players tried to adjust their game for surfaces they weren't great on (like Lendl at Wimbledon, Becker on clay, or Serena with those slices on clay few years ago), and they all failed. You have to rely on your strenghts and play it as well as possible. If you try to change your game so much so that it would suit a certain surface, your game will break apart.

Azarenka - Pennetta - Hantuchova - Ivanovic - Wozniacki - Stephens - Stosur

Re: Steffi Graf :"Sharapova is a complete player"

In modern women's tennis you don't really need volleys to win, so in that sense Maria does have a complete game. Back then if you couldn't volley you couldn't win. That's not the case nowadays.

And name one significant player in the past 10 years apart from Henin and Mauresmo who did have these things

(And no, Azarenka's slice and volleys are nothing more than mediocre, before you try that one.)

At least hers are better

And I'm not denying that there are very few players these days who have a complete game, but Pova is definitely not one of them.

Re: Steffi Graf :"Sharapova is a complete player"

OMG who cares about having a complete game. There are a lot of players who have complete games, can slice, dice, volley, trick and do magic with their racquets but if they don't have it mentally to be a champion. They don't win.

Maria has it mentally and that's a quality I admire more than anything else. To come back from a career threatening injury and back to No. 1 and with a slam. That's something.

You're not a complete player unless if you have it mentally. So Maria is a complete player. Probably the most complete behind Serena right now.

Do you think she would have been able to do it in say, the years 2005 - 2008 and not this weak era i.e. when Serena, Venus, Justine, Kim, Davenport etc were playing

You heard what she also said about Lucic. I tell you her praise is a curse. ---

Steffi Graf was part of a youth tennis group that was studied from age 12 and then followed, and the scientists called her "the perfect talent" even then. In addition to her many tennis-specific skills, her aerobic capacity was on par with the best distance runners in Europe. --- David Epstein, The Sports Gene

Idiot. You get so much, so wrong, so often

Would she have been able to do it coming back from her career threatening injury in those years.

What a fool you are.

You're most probably so over-excited that you can't even read properly

Would Kvitova have won Wimbledon in those years?

These kind of 'what if' situations are pathetic...not surprising, coming from you, though

You just can't give her credits for finally coming along way to win an elusive slam
