Probably because they saw that shaky Maria-McHale match and decided that Maria would just tank somewhere to conserve energy for RG

OTOH if TF's prediction's turned out to be true, she would be the reigning champion of all 4 majors and YEC. It all evens out at the end of the day.

Re: Why Tennis.com is permanently underestimating Maria's chances to win?

Don't know, i picked Maria both times. The Ivanovic match prediction is really puzzling. #2 in good form against #13. Venus is just back, bit of a dark horse sure but still.... I often think writers in magazines like to look interesting by saying slightly off beat things like this, fair enough if it works out, only now it just looks a bit foolish.

she is a reigning Champion and defending her 900 points , Therefore she is still struggling for the title

Maria is something about 27-5 this year and they are still predicting her to lose to someone with 16-10 or Venus who is on her way for recovery

They don't pay attention. It took them until about a year ago to figure out that Cornet is no longer a threat to anyone.

Re: Why Tennis.com is permanently underestimating Maria's chances to win?

They forget to check Maria's amazing personal record on this tournament (16-2 W/L, probably best after Cincinnati of all big and semi-big tournaments which she have) and fact that she is unbeaten there since 2008 (when she is forced to w/o from Rome SF).

She can beat anyone here. Even Ivanovic.

and I'm not even fan of Ana Ivanovic... just an objective observer who realize how perfect she is

AMAZING BELGRADE MIRACLE: In just three years (2008-2011) 5 different players born in same city reach world #1 in rankings and several GS titles and finals (WTA singles: Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic, ATP singles: Novak Djokovic, ATP doubles: Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor... with notable performances of Bojana Jovanovski, Janko Tipsarevic and Viktor Troicki which is also all three born in Belgrade)

Have Ivanovic and Venus won bigger titles in previous 2 years?

As for me , i had a feeling that both matches were going to be competitive with all key points won by Masha. Masha is simply and clearly a more consistent player than Ana and Venus in comtemporary form and it is obvious for anyone , who is not bias

Oh here we go again.

Their writers have picked Sharapova in the past on numerous occasions, only to see her mentally fold and fail.

You clearly need to stop just looking at recent times just because they haven't picked her.

Who cares about Bali? is it more important than Cincinatti, Rome and Stuttgart with top 8 in the draw?

Sharapova was playing erratic tennis a year ago and they were picking her, this year she is pretty consistent and playing solid tennis and they still predict wins for mental midgets or grannies from the nursing home
