Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

Other than Serena, Lucie is the only player i've seen recently that appears to have all the physical attributes that could give the women's hierarchy a scare. Where has this 26 year old been ? Her serve certainly rivals anybody's out there ! Time is ticking away for her, but if somebody 'handled' her properly, she could be an exciting player for 5 or more years.

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

Agreed. She also impressed me much during her SF match against Serena. That serve was huuuge! Serena was like 'WTF?'
But I'm afraid she is THAT good for 2-3 shots - the longer the rallies, the more mistakes she makes.

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

No tea no shade, but we've seen players like her before. I agree, she was impressive as hell last week, but she's the type of player who has 1-2, maybe 3 good tournaments a year, where her serve and returns aimed for the lines on pretty much every shot go in. In that SF match she was essentially hitting 2 first serves, that won't work over multiple tournaments. There's a reason she was ranked where she was.

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

I think Hradecka is one of those hardhitters who needs a speedy, fast court which is also slow so she can handle the defense a bit.
Her game is really working on strange surfaces like blue clay...

On slower and on faster surfaces she has more problems.

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

I agree. Her movement is not good enough. To sustain long rallies.
Put her against defensive machines like Radwanska and Wozniacki and her game won't really work, unless her serve is sensational.
But I think her game could translate to all surfaces. A fast surface and her serve will become harder to return, slow it down to clay and she'll have more time to defend incoming shots.
But in reality her doubles is much better than her singles and always will be.

Thankyou for years of service to British tennis

You know she's inconsistent, right? Basically, if she's not big hitting, she's big missing. That's been her game forever. I guess Lucie has a bandwagon now.

She cant play like this week in week out..still a great week for her nonetheless. But wouldn't be surprised if she was bundled out in the first round of her following tournament..

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

Here are some players Lucie has lost to in the past year

Heather Watson
Stefanie Voegele twice
Edina Gallovitz
Begu
Tusrenko
Hampton
Nastassja Burnett
Anne Keothavong
Zahlavova
Birnerova
Baltacha

Lucie has the weapons but she does not have the mindset.

Thank god tennis is not a carnival whackhammer-esque sport, and requires a brain.

Lucie needs to focus on grass now. I'm sure she will do well with those freaky serves.

Re: Lucie Hradecka, Where Have You Been ?

She had a tough match with Woz in Beijing but she lost 7-5 in the 3rd.

I can't remember anything special about her 2nd serve from that match so maybe the 2 first serves is something she's trying this year?
