The Most Aces in One Match?

Watching Serena serve so incredibly well against Stosur with 20 aces, in all four corners of the service box, deuce and ad, David Mercer said he doesn't remember seeing a woman serve 20 aces in two sets. In fact, one game had six aces in it.

So I was wondering, which matches have there been over the years where a player has served a great amount of aces. Now what would be a good cut off point? Let's say 15 aces or more in a match

Re: The Most Aces in One Match?

Didn't Krajicek just have like 17 aces a few weeks ago in one of the tournaments she's played? Pretty sure that was a 3 set match though..

Kanepi holds the record - 24.
Who holds the Most Aces record in a WTA match?

And the dish ran away with the spoon..

Re: The Most Aces in One Match?

I could've sworn some local hit like, 25 aces back in 2002 Australia Season.

You're welcome to visit the statistics part of the forum sometimes

There's a thread for this: The "15+ ACE" Thread! (updated after 2015 US Open)

Of course 20 aces is more impressive in two sets than a few more in a three setter.

In a 2 set match? Even then there's so many factors (numerous deuces, TBs, etc) that the only meaningful stat would be aces/number of serves.

Re: The Most Aces in One Match?

Maybe Petrova has hit somewhere near that tally but for 2 sets it's unreal!

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

So . why are tennis sets so vague? Like I posted above, the only meaningful ace stat is as a fraction of serves made. Comparing aces made in a 6-1, 6-1 match with those in a 7-6, 7-6 match is ludicrous. As is comparing aces in a 6-4, 6-4 match that had a total of 12 deuce points with a 6-4, 6-4 match in which there were none. Yet tennis has this vague, meaningless approach to stats in almost every area. In fact, it might be the sport that lacks the most in the area of stats.

It was a 4-6 6-3 6-4 win for Kaia.

The thread wanted to know who's hit the most aces in one match. There they are. If you want to go back somewhere to figure out "percentages of serves" then by all means.

I wasn't suggesting that you - or anyone else here - make meaningful stats. The ITF, WTA and ATP should be seeing to that. Just like the NFL, NBA and MLB do.

Re: The Most Aces in One Match?

I actually created a thread like this like 2 years ago and somebody answered me that Myskina once hit 36 aces in a match

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.
