She is a late bloomer .

Nice win.

How hilarious would it be if she discovered that she's better on hard than on clay and she's wasted all these years playing clay-only events.

Don't underestimate a young player from Romania named Alexandra going deep in her early WTA main draws. People will never learn...

You know what she's coming for.

That would be hilarious indeed, although I guess that this knowledge wouldn't have changed her schedule. She even considered retirement at the age of 19, already demanded a scholarship for the US, but then luckily won a random 10k tournament in Bucharest where she found some new sponsors and got to meet her coach Bogdan Popovici, great success story.

And we barely have any other surfaces than clay in Romania, how should she have known...

Actually very unusual for a Romanian, rather agressive, but she lacks the power. Decent serve as well.

I know, I never saw a hardcourt in Romania in my life. But did she ever play a hardcourt event until Luxembourg last year?

I watched against Dokic this week and her backhand was so improved from the last time I saw her. Plus the attitude seemed fine too, especially for a tight match

Yes, 2 tournaments in 2010, one 25k in Brazil losing to Perrin in the final and the 75k Dubai that year grabbing 7 games from at that time slumping AMG.

Yes, her backhand was much better, that's also the first thing I noticed about her and she hits a cleaner ball, 1st serve good as well and the DFs not that much as they used to be.
And, no underarm serve on BPs or MPs. She is much more confident now and doesn't need that on court bitching anymore which always seemed to be rather a sign of desperation than of actual agressiveness to begin with...

Not bad results at all and she was supposed to be play on hardcourts in USA anyway.

Re: Monterrey QF; Cadantu humiliates LDL 6-2 6-0

The criticism levelled at Cadantu is very reminiscent of the same hostility aimed at her countrywoman and namesake Dulgheru when she first won Warsaw. Dulgheru has since proved herself very much worthy of the top 100 and capable of some important big wins and definitely contributing to the tour.

Cadantu was rubbished for reaching the top 100 without top 100 wins but this is now shown to be related more to her lack of exposure to top 100 players through playing mainly ITFs than lack of inherent ability. She has shown this week that she is growing as a player and is much more capable than she has been given credit for.
