Azarenka: Least hyped about #1 player?

Just a thought, not to push people's buttons here.

I just feel that she's not getting as much love as the previous #1s. And when I was in Dubai last week, Caroline's picture were plastered everywhere for the tournament promotions.

What do you say international tennis fans?

Those posters were likely printed and planned months in advance.

As far as I see it, Azarenka's 2 minute stint on Ellen reached more people in the United States on a media level than any recent #1. I'd say wait till IW - the tennis world doesn't get up for Dubai like they do for the IW/Miami double

She has a slam so there's nothing to talk about with the #1 rank now

"least hyped"? What the?

When did it become an absolute necessity to be "hyped" anyway?

Besides, Vika actually IS getting more and more attention and appreciation (proof of this development: horny sheiks).

Least hyped? I feel like she has been getting heaps of attention, just not of the negative kind. There have been all these articles about her being the next Djokovic, or winning the golden slam etc. I almost feel like all we are hearing about atm is Ararenka. That being said she is the class player so far this year.

Perpetually under-ranked.

I think the hype is just about right.

Re: Azarenka: Least hyped about #1 player?

Well, everything between the Australian Open and Indian Wells is irrelevant to any mainstream newspaper.
If she wins big in Indian Wells/Miami, the media will be all over her.

She's a great player but she isn't known for her personality or her looks so it's hard to markert her right now.
Most of the public will probably see her as Maria Sharapova 2.0

It's up to her and her PR team to find her niche.

Silly thread: your hype as No. 1 doesn't build until you go through a few Slams as No. 1 and you have people talking about you nonstop for two weeks per slam.

For example, the hype for Caro didn't really build until the 2010 US Open (when she was top seed) and the 2011 Aussie Open (when she was No. 1 and top seed).
