Graf won her last slam just before her 30th birthday, and it was a gift from a self sabatoging Hingis. Her first major title in 2 and a half years, obviously now well past her prime. Then soon after turning 30 she was badly overpowered by Davenport in the Wimbledon final and retired.

No player since 1990 has won a slam in their 30s. The game was nowhere near as physical back then as it is today.

I could see Serena winning anywhere from 0-3 more slams. However the more I think about it the most likely answer is probably 0.

Serena is not more physically gifted than Graf and Navratilova. She is a more gifted ball striker than either probably, and more gifted server, but in terms of pure athleticsm those two are the best in history. Serena isnt even the most physically gifted of her own era, that would be Venus. Even if you disagree she is about 30% as dedicated to fitness and staying in shape as Graf and Navratilova, has had more injuries than Graf and many more than Navratilova, and as a result at this stage of her career is nowhere near as athletic as they were. Watching her matches since her return to injury her movement around court is now average at best, and she looks clumsy at times. She also tires easily, and doesnt have an abundance of energy in the tank if needed. Even when she wins like in Canada it has nothing to do with athleticsm anymore. Her groundstrokes are still solid and effective, though nowhere near as overpowering as once. She mostly wins on her GOAT serve, sheer will to fight and win, her experience and improved point construction, and excellent return of serve. When someone is either overpowering her, getting everything back, or mixing patience with hitting early and accurately enough to move her, she becomes almost useless now as she did in her mostly one sided losses to Bartoli, Stosur, and Makarova since her return.

Why not? Every great career comes to an end at some point, and it's not disrespectful to wonder whether she will ever win another slam. People are wondering the same thing about Federer without Fed fans getting all huffy about it. Why is Serena always treated as so sacred?

My own opinion on whether she'll win more slams: she could, but it won't surprise me if she doesn't.

Her peak is obviously long gone, she's 30 now for christ's sake...but she isn't done yet.

Steffi's last WImbledon match was close. She wasn't badly overpowered. And her retirement came in America after she was badly injured during a pre-US Open warm up. Plus that year she won RG, beating all the top seeds including Lindsay, Monica and others as well as reaching the Wimbledon final beating Venus and a red hot Mirjana.

Serena is probably physically stronger than Steffi so a similar year is no where near out of the question. Petra and Vika can't imagine they will beat her at Wimbledon or even RG, just yet.

Re: Is Serena Past Her Peak and Will Never Win a Slam Again?

Someone (can't recall who) said recently on one of the many threads on this topic (can't remember which) that the days when Serena can just turn up at a slam and play herself into form are over. I think this pretty much sums it up. If she can have a good run in lead-up events (like she did in the USO series last year) she can still be very nearly unbeatable. If she continues to go AWOL for long periods, she is no longer quite good enough to be a strong contender when the slams come around (although even then she can't be completely ruled out). In short, she needs to start planning her schedule better than she has been doing up till now.

Re: Is Serena Past Her Peak and Will Never Win a Slam Again?

She's definitely past her peak but it would be silly to rule her out of winning another slam. I'm hesitant to say the Serena chapter is done based on two bad 2012 matches played while injured, one against a fearless Makarova in goat-mode, plus two others in 2011 against similarly goat-mode but higher ranked opponents.

Just watch her confound the critics by winning Wimby or the USO this year.

I'm not a Serena fan, but you are a fool to rule out her ability to win slams while she is still an active player.

Queen Venus Williams Wisest, most experienced, respected, gracious and most intimidating player on the tour Veelieve!

I don't think Venus will be back if im honest. Serena will carry on for a while but its clear her heart is not in it any more. I think its time she called it a day if im honest.
