Pick your Grand Slam Champions for 2003

Pick a different person for each slam, so you should have four different winners.

My Picks:

Australian Open - Alicia Molik
French Open - Martina Hingis
Wimbledon - Eleni Daniilidou
US Open - Monica Seles

This was tougher than I thought, I would love to see Martina win here in Aus, she plays so well here, and has been dissapointed three years in a row after making the finals, but I'm sure she wants the F.O to complete the career slam. Then I thought Kournikova, but I think it would be great to see an Aussie Girl Win in OZ, it would get more people interested in womens tennis. Wimbledon and the US where easier to pick. With me not able to pick Martina for all of them.

Aus - Kim
RG - Amelie
Wimbledon - Venus
US - Serena

But please don't anyone bet the farm on those guesses!!

Also, I think those 4 will win one each but I'm not confident in my predictions of which will win which.

Nothing wrong with the Hingis and Seles bet...

but Molik and Danilidou? LOL they have weapons, a great serve, great all court game but that kind of game takes longer to put together for some...and even when they put everything together there is just too much competition to warrant picking even a SF from either

Good luck to the Aussie and Balkan girls!

Judio, actually those picks although they may look outrageous all of those players can be pretty good players.

AO - molik: big serve, volley's a lot (probably more suited to wimbledon), should play well with home crowed support and has taken monica seles to three tough sets. but with her form this year if she plays that way it is unrealistic.

FO - hingis: already been in the final and suits her game being a slow surface so she can run balls down. hasn't played well lately and is on a break but if she rgains form from a few years ago she can do well. and i don't think the sisters looked all that great there this year although both made the final.

wimby - daniilidou: took jen to three sets this year and is always improing her game. she is powerful, thinks well and volley's every now and again. if she plays like when she won her title this year she could be the riser of 2003.

us open - seles: always a contender these days but doesn't seem to play at her best in grand slams. if she finds her form of the lead up tournaments to the us open in 2001 then she will definately be up there.

as for my picks i would like molik, baltacha, bielik, and viele (i am a fan and can't stop being one for some reason). but i know this won't happen.

i think the sisters are up there and each will definately make a final. i think mauresmo will make the final of the oz open and possibly seles. i also think clijsters will at least be in a final and justine probably at roland garros. i'm hoping jen can gete in there somewhere and i think dokic with a coach may do something at wimby.

Go the aussies! stosur!!!
and good luck russians: dementieva, safina, kirilenko, sharapova, kuznetsova, bovina, zvonareva, dushevina.

also good luck to: azarenka, lucic, sprem, vakulenko, vaidisova, safarova, ivanovic, groenefeld, mirza, krajicek, kvitkova, larcher de brito, lisicki.

Although I would love to see Alicia Molik win the Australian Open I feel she is maybe 2 years from making any real impact in Grand Slams.

My Pics.

AO: Capriati....has the fire power to match the Williams Sisters who seem not to be in best form here In Australia. The "Rebound-Ace" suits her groundy's.

FO: Serena....if she plays like this year there again...I don't think anyone can go close to her. (Hantuchova for a dark-horse there)

WIMB: Ummm Venus coz I'm not allowed to say Serena hehe :-)

US: Lindsay Davenport....great champs don't stay off the podium for too long :-)

P.S I Hope Capriati wins them all...but that would be biased wouldn't it? :-)

Keep smiling

Kirt

****** Dasha Sam, Jarka, Casey, Serena , then the guys with nice asses on the ATP, followed by other Aussies, bit of a gap...then Venus.....bit of a bum scratch...then will watch Lisiki or Radwanksa...gap...everyone else (or sleep) ******Pending membership for the Ash Barty Return Band Wagon*****

Molik - no way. has a great game. very capable of upsets. But once the opponent adapts to her game they just pin her at the baseline untill those errors creep in ..... and trust me ..... they always do - i have seen it time and time again.
Also her backhand..... although attractive - it is a big liability. Its weak and the topspin on it just leaves it sitting in the air mid-court. Its really quite ridiculous that u pick her to win a slam when she has done next to nothing promising in singles all year.
I would not even have her to make the quaters.
Beautiful game when she puts it together though... but she can't keep it going 3 matches in a row..... let alone 7!

If I have to pick four you make it easy.

OZ - Serena, completing the 'Serena Slam'

RG - Kim Clijsters. It's close to home, so all her friends can come. THey remember her fondly from 12-10 in the third set. And after her performance in the Tour Champs, I HAD to give her one.

WB - Venus returns, defeating Monica in the final. And we spend the next three weeks arguing whether the crowd was pro-Monica, or anti-Venus.

US - Chanda Rubin defeating Monica Seles US players have won this championship the last four times in row. I expect an all US final, but shockingly not the one we'd expect.

BTW, if 4 diff players realy win the 4 Slams, Monica will be in the running for year-end number one. She'll make the semis of all 4 slams.

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

Eleni win a Slam? Much as I would love that to happen (and Eleni on top form is a serious threat to all!) I don't know if she'll do it in 2003... but 2004, maybe?

Let's see...

Oz: Mauresmo
RG: Henin
Wimb: Venus
US: Serena

So long, signature...
