Why did Davenport always smile when she served?

Did she ever say something about it?

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

It's just an automatic, unconscious part of her service motion. I tried it once, and I 'smiled' too.

I actually tried it too 4 or 5 times and never got a serve in while smiling

Re: Why did Davenport always smiled when she served?

because of her puffy face.

I guess she's trying to be as relax as she can when serving. and probably that's why she's pretty good with her serves.

I miss that... I miss her a lot. Does any current player smile while serving?

It's hyaluronic acid, not botox

Re: Why did Davenport always smile when she served?

why did Boris Becker Stick his tongue out when he served? Not only that but why did he indicate which direction he was gonna serve based on his tongue? The point is players dont usually even realise they are doing these things... it just "is what it is".

It's just a tic that became a habit. I stick out my tongue every time I hit a slice. It's not intentional, it just happens.
