Lisicki: "The food poisoning was life-threatening"

Sabine spoke with a trusted reporter of the German newspaper "BILD".

How are you after the setback?

Lisicki: "Better, but China was a disaster and messed up my rhythm."

What happened?

Lisicki: "After the first match I've eaten meat and an hour later I felt sick during training at once. I vomited endlessly and had to go to hospital immediately, as five other (male and female) players on that day too. I was on a drip for hours."

Had this anything to do with your gluten allergy?

Lisicki: "No, it was something else entirely. The allergy has been suggested because no one noticed that also five other players had to go to the clinic. Coaches, physios, players - many got it. "

It was said that you were snatched from the jaws of death ...

Lisicki: "Yes, it was a life-threatening situation. The doctors have panicked when I landed in the hospital. I was extremly dehydrated, almost unconscious. As the doctors spoke to me, they were quite far away from me, at the end of the tunnel. But they were standing right beside me."

How did you come home?

Lisicki: "We called the airline and made sure that there was a bed in the business class for me."

Why does it take so long to recover?

Lisicki: "Because my energy level is extremely low. Everything is so exhausting, the whole body was drained. I was never in my life so seriously ill. Never!"

Poor Sabine. Let this be a lesson for all: don't go China anymore, the food there is dangerous for your health

As far as I know Bild is even worse than the British tabloids so I would not take that interview too seriously

That drama of "the end of the tunnel", "the jaws of death"...seems a bit over the top

Keep staying pressed NA-MUG. People only attend this "5th slam" because it's a Premier Mandatory.

Faves: Sharapova, Hantuchova, Safarova, Goerges
GO BEARS!

Of course, all food in China is dangerous. 1.3 billion people spend every day "at the end of the tunnel" because there is nothing safe to eat.

I like Sabine, but I find it hard to believe she would've gone back on court to play a match in Linz within 7 days if it was truly "life threatening".

This. It's ridiculous. When asked about her ankle injury at Wimbledon she mentioned having to learn to walk again at least 4 times in a 5 minute interview.

She's not overly dramatic, remember her match vs Vera at the French when she was stretchered off bawling her eyes out cause she got cramp, that's normal behaviour right?

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Re: Lisicki: "The food poisoning was life-threatening"

Posting here to say that BILD is one of the least trustworthy sensationalist tabloid bullshit papers in existance, it's akin to taking The Sun, The Daily Mail or stuff like that seriously.

Just a heads up, obviously your own choice if you believe it or not, but I'm a bit sceptical, for sure.
