Re: The player of the year?

Petra, duh. Near as makes no difference as many ranking points as Woz. This question should be easy to answer: simply ask which of these players would other members of the top 10 least want to see in their quarter of a slam draw? To ask the question is to answer it. No one in the top 10 should be worried about playing Caro or Li. They should rather like their chances, as the YEC showed. But they should be very worried about playing Petra, because if she's on -- and all I mean by that is keeping her winners equal to her errors -- then she will beat your fave, and there won't be anything they can do about it.

"I really have friends on the tour, and I'm really happy for it. ...I remember when I was young and someone told my father that I'm too nice for tennis. So I'm just glad that I can be nice off the court and fighting on the court." Petra Kvitova, May 8, 2005

P. Kvitova def. S. Williams 6-2, 6-3

Re: The player of the year?

Just wondering whether there would be someone voting for Woz on this poll?? I think that would be sign of being delusional.

I think for most top players, that is true. I can't imagine Li for example have an equal ratio and not winning the match.

I'm not saying I think Na is the player of the year, just saying that, using that statement as a reason is bunk, as it's going to be true for all aggressive players.

In winning Wimbledon, Madrid and YEC, Kvitova joined Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis and Serena Williams as only the 5th player to win on grass, clay and hard court at tier 1 (PM or P5) level or higher in the same year.
