I got to hand it to the few Kvitova bandwagoners that are still left, they're sticking it out till the end. I wouldn't bet 20 cents on her, there's no way she will get anywhere close to the final [at the YEC].
I mean when Kvitty won Wimbledon you were all full of confidence and berating everyone who dared to suggest she was not quite going to become a no.1 or a major force on the tour. A few months later and you, fans of Wimbledon champion, are full of joy when she gets to a QF or a mandatory or beats some average players in international tournament. But still you are delusional enough to suggest she is the fav to win the YEC. Speaks for itself...
For all the hype Kvitova gets, she really isn't that great unless her game is on and the environment is perfect for her. She looks very beatable if you can put pressure on her, and I fully expect that to be illustrated next year... Her winning game just has too little variety and margin for error as it is now.
Real #1 was at her very best for the first 5 games, but from then on until the beginning of the third, she seemed to completely lose her timing and feel for the ball and was blasting pretty much every ball she tried to hit with any pace well out. Credit to Azarenka too for defending well, taking any scraps she could, and doing a much better job of returning Real #1's serve than anyone else has to date, from what I've seen. But, as expected, Real #1's champion mentality came to the rescue at the crunch; in the third set, she got just the right balance of controlled aggression while landing enough balls in court. She showed time and time again this week how she can scramble through matches even when below her best. I said after Wimbledon and I still believe now, there's no way this girl is finishing her career with less than 8 Slams, and she'll be a major contender at the Australian and US Open as well as Wimbledon for years to come (still not sure about RG though) - she's just got too much talent and such a rounded game.
Re: YEC FINAL: Real #1 Petra Kvitova def. Victoria Azarenka 7-5 4-6 6-3
Petra NID but today was the worst match played by her the whole week. Luckily it's still enough. almost choke but oh well, forgiven for winning the YEC.
Dropshots mostly work well, mixing a little up to throw off Vika but net play overall was poor compared to usual. Serve was pretty ineffective today compared to the whole week but still manage to get it done when it mattered most. and don't let anyone to dominate you on points. You're not Jankovic/Cibulkova.
Vika still great tournament. also playing pretty poor compared to her first 2 matches. hopefully she can keep getting better and win a slam next year or so. Dont ever try pushing please. Don't think it works for Caro to be #1 and will work you too.
