Is Serena now The All Time Single Season Prize Money Leader?

I read that Serena now holds the record for the most prize money earned in a single season. Currently she has won $3,466,000 by reaching the Semi's. The old record was held by Martina Hingis at $3,400,000.

Beat'em down Ms Williams, beat'em down!

And she makes at least 5 times that in endorsments a year

"I told her, `You don't want to get into a hitting battle with Sharapova, because it would be uneven for Sharapova, because Sharapova only has one good side and that's her backhand,"'. "`You don't want to get into that for the simple reason you would win. So try to hit some balls to her strong side, to her backhand, and that would help you with your match for tomorrow

Well, if you account for inflation & the purse differential, Serena is about 15% lower than Hingis's results. Regardless, good number, Serena!

Inflation didn't start with Serena. Don't forget that it was "inflation" when Hingis did it, too.

So there

well it's not even only a case of inflation, it's also the prize money... I'm pretty sure that Navratilova didn't get 700,000$ for a US Open title, etc.

Bottom line, regardless of whether it's inflation or prize money, all of those figures keep rising in time. So unless you're talking about the very first players to compete back in the 1890's, then the same applies to Hingis, Navratilova, etc. as that which applies to Serena.

Serena currently holds the record in an undisputed fashion. She is the best, and that's all you need to know.

congrats Serena, although i do agree calculating prize money can be misleading, it still doesnot hinder the fact that Serena wa \s the best player in the world and her dominace on the tour was not seen since Hingis in 1997

bright red, read my first post, my only point is that this record will keep getting broken because the money gets higher. For example in year 2010, the US Open alone might have a prize money of 2 million dollars for the winner and the no.1 player would end with about 8 million or something...

You just knew the detractors would come, eh? If it was everyone else's favorite, it'd be the greatest thing for their fans, wouldn't it? Don't be bitter because it's not your favorite.

Just think. Serena she did all of this playing like 12 or 13 tournaments. The others before her played FAR more I'm sure. Imagine how much she'd have if she wasn't injured and played more, including the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Montreal. We might be talking 5 million right now and maybe we will next year.

"All this year Kim has been have catwalk draws ..." - leslie, on Kim Clijsters' easy draws in 2003
"I wanna see Anna, I bet I could tape that ass" - SerenaSlam, on fan perception of Anna K.
"n I am more of a retard, yes." - gogomaggie
"she has a face of a cereal killer" - Naldo, on Serena Williams
