Playing in front of a crowd that appeared smaller than the announced figure of 5,000, Serena Williams and Jennifer Capriati struggled before advancing in the WTA Championships.
For the second consecutive day, Staples Center was mostly empty for the tournament that determines the WTA Tour's final rankings of the year. Officials said 6,826 tickets were distributed, while total attendance for the day and evening sessions was given as 5,000.
It was so quiet during the afternoon that dishes being cleared from tables in the 20,000-seat arena's restaurant could be heard on court.
Yesterday they also said that there had been 5,000 people for the eevening session. In no way was that true. Rather 1,000 or so.
well I think they may have counted corporate package tix as well which means that they may not showup until semis or even final. Well a good indication will be tonight Venus vSerena and see how many people turn up, if it is still as dead as today, then I will announced the tournament as a total failure, to be true, Hong Kong can fill up more than 5000 for a Monica Lindsay match let alone a Monica Venus match
-Oldest game in wtaboard, started in April 2000 even before wtaworld is born.
-You can create your own player, making their own name, making their personality.
-Some player has been playing for more than 10 years
Ah, but would the Williams sisters and Monica play in Belgium? That's the real x-factor. The WTA really needs all the players who qualify to play, or at least to show up.
And the tournament did fine at MSG; it's just a scheduling conflict that keeps them from returning there. They should work something out, though.
