Pavlyuchenkova...

She's really talented and it's nice to see she's in position to get to top 10 in the very near future.

But she keeps getting chunkier and chunkier each event I see her play. Babyfat no more. Fattychenkova or Pavlyuchunky is more like it. Even commentators are quipping her about her fitness or lack of. Watching her play Li I am appalled by how she just packs all the carbs. At IW 2009 she was a bit thick, but now?

Kvitova realized she needed to get in better shape and did comething about it (she looked pregnant in that USO 2009 match with Safina). It took Davenport quite a while to get into shape, but she did so. Pavlyuchenkova still has some areas to build on (*cough*serve*cough*), but I worry she won't improve until she can cut the carbs. Given how sad the WTA top 20 is, she's blowing a great chance to make her mark. That or she could end up giving Ahsha Rolle or Anna-Lena Groenefeld a run for their money.

Waiting for the next great non-headcase to emerge....

Her groundies are really interesting, prolly the most interesting to watch after Maria's ones. But the serve same fight as Maria I guess

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

I agree. Imagine how good she could be with a more trained body. I'm sure she will realise it at some point, but I rather have it sooner then later.

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

weight watchers newest episode. This board is always obessed with their bodies.
There are maybe bigger problems than her body. Like finding a reliable serve that actually works. Or not to choke. Stuff like that.

I've mentioned the serve. My goodness that needs help. I think it would be easier if she didn't need to exert so much energy just to get the serve in. She's fighting gravity when serving and lacks fluidity on the serve as a result.

If she doesn't get in shape, next thing you know her knees, ankles, and/or abdomen will suffer. I like Pav. She still unpolished like Kvitova. She's more than capable of moving up, but she has to want it enough.

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

She's PavlyuCHOKEva before Babyfatchenkova. She should've EASILY made the finals at the French.

Sadly, the quicker the courts get, the worse she plays. She's very good on clay and may make some noise next year but I'm not expecting much from her at Flushing Meadows.

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

It comes with time. Sooner or later, she's gonna lose it if she wants to say somewhat of a force on tour.

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

In this case I think her size is only effecting her game to a certain degree...she's got good stamina and actually moves pretty well.

Funny that she has still amounted to x10 more than you ever will

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

She is the top 20 player with the most major weaknesses:

1. Lack of fittness. Her movement is not good enough.
2. Weak serve.
3. Very weak mentally (A huge headcase).
4. Lack of belief in her game.

She is in the top 20 because she is so talented. I didn't see any noticeable improvements in her game this year. If she really wants to be a true top player who wants to win Slams in the future, she must work on her fittness, movement, mental strength and serve.

But if she keeps it up, she'll get injuries. a la Mardy Fish (best example I can think of...)

She is adorable. Needs to slow down on the bagels and baked products though

Re: Pavlyuchenkova...

Well she just took a set off Li Na in New Haven, so it ain't all bad news...

Edit: OK I take it back. Looks like a bagel in the third.

It's later than you think...
