Is the Texas Open trying too hard?

I mean, can players focus with these huge screens literally on court?

But I, being poor, have only my dreams
I have spread my dreams under your feet
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

Re: Is the Texas Open trying too hard?

They had to have something to cover up the lack of advertising.

In all seriousness. It does look purely cosmetic. This is not a purpose built facility. It's a muni facility where they are holding a pro tennis event. They've got chain link all the way around the "center court". To make it look presentable on TV, they've got to put something up in the background to block out the garbage in the background that can otherwise be seen through the fence.

We love our big TV screens at sports venues in Texas, just like I love Lena's bangs.

Definitely one of the smallest on tour

Technically, it's a private resort, not a municipal facility, but it definitely not built for hosting a pro-level event.

This site used to host a USTA-level event (TOB is among the former winners here) and they decided to upgrade it to a WTA-level. While there have been some positives in terms of good, supportive crowds from most reports and pretty decent buzz in the local tennis community, I do have to wonder what the quality of the facility and the heat (which is really much worse than usual this year) is doing to the player's impression. One gets a sense some of them are ready to head to NYC.

There are other venues in the D/FW area that could handle an event like this. SMU used to host the old Virginia Slims tournament and has indoor and outdoor courts. Grapevine has some advantages in terms of location, parking, etc.

I'll take some time off from researching Lena's bangs and see if some upgrades are planned. This may just be a first-year situation and there may be better things to come.

But for those of us who have been waiting 20 years for pro tennis to come back to North Texas, it's been wonderful.

Re: Is the Texas Open trying too hard?

That's probably the suckiest Center Court of a tennis tournament

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

I do not know what type of screens are those, but I see it getting hit by a Lisciki serve and by a Gorges forehand shot, and they kept working OK.

The location is great, but yeah it is a work in progress, I went tuesday and requested a "stadium" ticket but I wanted it on the west side stand to not have the sun in my face, but the ticket lady told me that they have not finished that one yet, so we are only selling for the east side.
The staff is very nice, but I think they should schedule the games at a later time because of the heat.

1.Marcela Zacarias2.Ana Sofia Sanchez 3.Ximena Hermoso 4.Victoria Rodriguez 5.Nadia Abdala 6. Caro Betancourt

Ana Ivanovic - Vika Azarenka - Vera Z - Vesnina - Sabine Lisicki - Aravanne Rezai.

Myskina, Dementieva, Babsi, Sabatini & Gavaldon.

It would have been nice if Lena was still active and somehow was in this tourney.

This TF would initiated a petition drive to have her meet you in private.
