Do we See Kim Clijsters in Competition 2011 Again?

Those who follow the scene closely, will remember that Kim mentioned at Australian Open that 2011 will probably be her last full year on the tennis tour. In Miami she said that she neither will go to Tokyo nor to Beijing this fall because of radiation fears (she didn’t play there in 2010 too).

After Kim withdraw from US Open, wrote: ” If a gradual approach is not taken, I will relapse in the same injury, and therefore I have also no other possibility than to withdraw from Tokyo and Beijing.

On her HP Kim announced her comeback at Diamond Games (= show event) at Antwerp on 12/08:

Quote:
"The most important thing right now is that I should make a full recovery, so I will also drop the rest of the season. I'll pick up training slowly and carefully and prepare for 2012, but without a specific time frame or pressure. I had two tournaments to go this autumn, but they are not worth the risk. I would not be able to get enough points to compete in the WTA Championship anyway."

Clijsters is determined to be back in full swing in 2012. "If later this year I manage to train like I have been training these last few weeks in the US, I know that shouldn't be a problem. I will definitely give it my all this autumn. My first test will be the Diamond Games in the Sportpaleis in Antwerp on December 8th. By the time I get to Australia in January, I want to be at my best again."

"I am now focussing on 2012, on the Olympics. Who knows? This time I might make it through without any injuries and I might feel up for a last US Open."

Yes, I think so.
If not, we will certainly see her again next year, at AO'12 and USO'12, to say say goodbye to the torunament that gave hee a wonderful second career and changed the perception she left when she fist retired.

Cold you fixt th tile of your thread to read "Will We See Kim Clijsters ..."

No

Something was bound to go right sometime today, All these broken pieces fit together to make a perfect picture of us
It got cold and then dark so suddenly and rained, It rained so hard the two of us were the only thing
That we could see for miles and miles
And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth, When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood

To be honest I'm not sure we will see her compete again on a professional level again. The motivation and desire doesn't seem to be there anymore. It really hasnt been there since Australia.

She will play in 2011 if she's healthy, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if she'd just skip the rest of the seasons, play some exos during the offseason and go right to Australia after that. That wouldn't be a bad move etheir has she has really slight chances if no any to make it to the YEC so why bothering playing if she has an excuses We all know tennis is not her priority anymore so better have Kim fully committed than playing just to play and quite like she did before.

Wozniak~ElTabakh ~Marino~Eugenie Bouchard...and the other Canucks!
Maria Sharapova~Anna Chakvetadze~Jelena Dokic~Laura Robson ~Sabine Lisicki

Really heartened to see her already talking about future plans for tournaments... I'd honestly started fearing she was going to retire immediately.

I'd say there's a small chance she'll play Luxembourg if her rehabilitation goes extremely well, seeing as it's close to home... probably won't make her proper return 'til 2012 though, as she says.

Re: Do we See Kim Clijsters in Competition 2011 Again?

Horrible luck for Kim to keep having these fluke injuries all year after the strong start. Hopefully she can be healthy all of 2012 to be able to give her best for her farewall year, regardless the results. She is capable of maybe winning another hard court slam or even two if she can stay healthy all year (dont expect much from her on the natural surfaces regardless). Interesting to read her talking about going to Australia. I thought she had said after winning this year it would be her last Australian. The hard court events are her bread and butter so she would be silly to skip those.

That's because she only played 6 tournaments after Australia and was injured or at least still recovering during all of them. If you read an interview from her, you'd see that she is still motivated, despite al the injuries. She wants to play in 2012, at least until the Olympics
