Williams' Sisters tournament withdrawals: A record?

I have often wondered over the years about the amount of tournaments V and S have entered and then withdrawn from, either before or during the tournament.

Do they rival Steffi? Her many withdrawals came in the second half of her career, but it seems to me that the Williams sisters have BOTH gone through this right the way through their careers. A pretty big coincidence that 2 sister tennis players also have a hell of a lot of injuries!

Regarding what somebody posted in the Cincy thread, are there really doctors that will fob off, say, tournament directors, at the request or payment of players? I have thought this for many years. There must be something fishy, can a person have so many things wrong with them over a period of time yet still be able to dominate a sport like tennis at close to 30?!

Are other player's record in this area followed much? Are there records kept about these things?

Whatever the truth, the fact is that the sporadic nature of their appearances at tournaments since the 90s has probably been what has kept both of them in the game, which, looking at women's tennis today, is one of the few things holding the WTA together. If it helps them stay in the game for a few more years, then long may the injuries continue!

This is silly ALL players withdrawal from tournments and if your hurt your going to withdrawal more. Im more concerned with players who are retiring from matches they have STARTED PLAYING once they are down just to save a little face.... Ala Justine OZ 06 . I dont want to hear anything about her stomach flu she just couldnt stomach losing to Amelie lol.

Team Williams
Princess of Power: Serena Williams
21 time grand slam champion, Tours best fighter, Olympic Champion
Queen of Grass: Venus Williams
7 time grand slam champion, Olympic Champion,
The Tour Standard! .... still haha!

At least most of the times they withdraws before the draw is made.

Azarenka always pulls out mid-tournament so that she can still get her appearance fee, no zero point and she still can make some money out of that bonus pool at the end of the year.

If the record in question is most total majors by one family, it may very well be. They have 36 (20 singles, 12 doubles, 4 mixed)

Even if it isn't they certainly seem to know how to handle their careers quite well don't they?

Just like Wozniacki knows how to handle hers, and Sharapova knows how to handle hers, and.....you get the idea.

Save it for when it really matters...people are already forgetting the last 2 events Serena played...
That's not true, and even if it were, they could always look it up online. Thanks to the Internet, we don't have to remember anything.
