Hey everyone! I got a lot of good reps for my report last year and decided to do the same this year as this is the only day I was going.
I went with simonsaystennis and my brother, tennisbuddy12, who is a volunteer again this year.
Once I paid my lovely-priced ticket I went straight to the practice courts and saw Rodionova and Makarova. I had forgotten Anastasia was coached by Conchita Martinez, who was looking fit as a whistle and Anastasia was playing great in the practice but i didnt think she would win 6-0,6-0 today
Matches I saw today:
Sara Errani def. (WC)Sloane Stephens 6-1,7-5 (most of the match)
All Sara had to do in the first was keep the ball in play and Sloane would just make an error. Sloane has a great forehand. Had me in awe many times but when she got into her rhythm it was too late. She had a easy ball at 5-4, 30-30 but couldnt convert it into a set point for her. I had left for a little bit to see Zakopalova-Safarova for a couple games for crazylace01
By the time I came back it was almost too late. Sloane has a great game but her first serve was dismal and needs a higher percentage and her footwork can be improved tremendously. But most of all, her attitude needs the most work. Sara was more aggressive than I saw her last year so it was nice to see an improvement.
After this match I saw Isner/Blake lose to Bogomolov Jr./Johnson for like 3 games before seeing Christina McHale's win over Pironokova.
Christina McHale def. Tsevtana Pironkova 7-5,4-6,6-1 (most of match)
I can see why Pironkova took it to a third. Christina, love the girl to death, tenses up in tight situations, like the numerous break points at 4-4 in the second. Pironkova kept using the forehand slice that has taken her to the second week of Wimbledon two years in a row now. Christina's footwork was the best of the day, maybe just as good as Ms.Squeaky Shoes herself (Ivanovic). The chair umpire was so blind that both players kept complaining alot. Shelby Rogers, who is here with Christina this week was with Christina's mom. Alex (simonsaystennis) and my brother Joey have known them for over a year. I had met Shelby at a 25k in Florida last year. After the win Christina's camp was very relieved. She gave Alex a hug and since I dont know the pair that well I was off to the side.
See, Joey is my twin brother and Xtina's mom did not know that so she gave me a hug and I was like I am not who you think you are
Shelby then remembered me from the Fort Walton Beach tournament and it was a good laugh after a well-deserved victory.
At that same 25k I saw Pironkova, and since then has bashed the ball hoping it will go in. Add slice to the forehand and that is Pironkova's game.
(Q)Jie Zheng def. Julia Goerges 6-2,1-6,6-4
By far the best match of the day. I am now a fan of Jie. She is aggressive, her volleys were exquisite and she just played overall better by just a hair, and the crowd LOVED both players. Julia's forehand was amazing when on, but her backhand let her down and Jie kept attacking it. I think Jie has the potential to make another slam semifinal or make it into the top 20 again. Julia was visibly frustrated with herself towards the end of the match and despite more cheers towards the end for her, Jie took not only the crowd but the match.
Ana Ivanovic def. (Q)Alexa Glatch 6-0,6-2
Last year I got a ton of good reps because of my adje and fistpump count I had for her match against Azarenka, in which she said after her match "was my breakthrough of last year." To be nice to Glatch, she only had 9 adje's and 7 fistpumps. I have been hearing that Alexa has been improving in each match she is playing. Her backhand and serve have improved alot but Ana was just spot on in her play and won in exactly 1 hour. The clock stopped right after it ended at 1 hour which I thought was cool. Ana did everything she was supposed to. I hope she can continue this form becuase she is a nice player off the court and is adorable and deserves the best.
After this I went to the Tennis Channel studio and got on Tennis Channel
and also got a picture with LINDSAY DAVENPORT.
A lot of people asked if she was pregnant
The new generation flocked to Ana and the old generation flocked to Lindsay. She was gracious and kind and was greeted with warm wishes for her baby. I forgot to ask her about her tennis plans
I saw tons of players so ask away your questions
