Re: Learn to pronounce Players' Names (Video)

They asked a French speaking Belgian to pronounce the names of the Flemish players. It's not that bad, but still not like a Fleming would pronounce them.

That's because of Slavic diacritic graphems which are not seen in English transcription and there are two of them in Lucie's family name (the second one is effectively unpronounceable for anyone with English as native language).

Same for Benesova who really is Beneshova and Vaidisova as Vaidishova.

Isn't Safarova supposed to be like Szafazova?
I always hear umpires say that.

Šafářová should even be "Shafarzhova" ("ř" is the weirdest Czech sound which can exist ).

Re: Learn to pronounce Players' Names (Video)

What I don't understand is why the transcription isn't simply Vaidishova instead of Vaidisova or Zvonarova (/Zvonaryova) insted of Zvonareva

For Czech names, simply because names already written in latin alphabet are not transcribed.
For Russian names... I don't know, in some countries (Poland for example), their transcription is correct.
