What was your fave's breakout win?

For example:
Safina beating Henin at Berlin
Azarenka beating Serena at Miami
Zheng beating Ivanovic at Wimby

Azarenka * Kvitova * Zvonareva * Oudin * Zheng * Peer
Waiting for the next great non-headcase to emerge....

Re: What was your fave's breakout win?

I always considered Dementieva's win over Venus in Miami 2004 to be the threshold of the top player she would become over the following seven seasons. But her wins over Venus in Fed Cup 1999 or either Henin or Davenport in Amelia Island 2003 could be considered her breakout wins too. But Miami 2004 holds a special place in my heart.

I thought Pav's win over JJ at IW was more impressive.

Re: What was your fave's breakout win?

I would say that Lindsay's was beating her original nemesis Sanchez-Vicario in the gold medal match at the Olympics. Her fitness had improved that year, but it really seemed that after that she went into hyperdrive as a real contender.

For Victoria, I'd lean towards her 2009 Miami win since she beat (an albeit hurt) Serena in the final, but I'd also say winning Brisbane earlier that year for her first title after a dismal finals record. She got the monkey off her back and began to progress into being a top ten player.

And lastly, Nicole's 2006 Roland Garros run to the seminfinals beating Venus, and almost beating Kuznetsova.

Re: What was your fave's breakout win?

Jelena: Maybe upseting Venus at Wimbly in 2006. After that classic match, she started going up and up....
Ana: Beating Mauresmo in Paris, 2005.
Bojana: Beating Jelena in Beijing last year.
But there are many turning points, matches and victories in player's career - a start of one streak, the end of that form, reaching a new form, starting another streak....

Re: What was your fave's breakout win?

Sam Stosur --> people already said that she had potential, but I think that her breakthrough win was the 6-1 6-4 demolition over Safina in Miami 2009
Martina HIngis --> as they said Rome 1996 when she defeated Graf
Daniela Hantuchova --> breakthrough victory to start belonging to the top... I guess against Natalie Tauziat who was top 10 at the time, I think that it was back in 2001, but breakthrough victory was definately the 2002 Indian Wells final.

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

For Kim, I think it was her win over Hingis in IW 2001.
