Will Wozniacki eclipse this Navratilova-held record?

Navratilova is the oldest player to never have lost to a younger player. The first time she lost to a younger player was in 1978, when she was 21 years and 5 months old (losing to Tracy Austin in Dallas).

Wozniacki turns 21 today and has never lost to a younger player. To grab this record, she will have to go the rest of the year without losing to:

Pavlyuchenkova
Paszek
U. Radwanska
Rus
Marino
Chang
Hercog
Martic
Doi
Pervak
Halep
Oudin
Vandeweghe
Jovanovski
McHale
Larcher De Brito
Stephens
Pliskovas
Robson
Garcia

etc.

Nav lost to tons of younger players, Graf and Dulko for example no?

Or maybe I am misunderstanding the record.

Re: Will Wozniacki eclipse this Navratilova-held record?

Pavlyuchenkova could possibly beat her, although there's obviously slim odds they'd even run into eachother at any point over the next 4 months... so probably yes. Although the record is worth less these days because there's far fewer teenagers breaking through than there were in Navratilova's day.

Yup. Because of rule changes, and increased physical demands, the eras are completely different.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Re: Will Wozniacki eclipse this Navratilova-held record?

Pavlyuchenkova has the best chance of beating Caro but even then she'd need to be on top form. Jovanovski is only getting better and the last time they played was pretty close.

The woods are hopeless. Don't waste your time, they will be destroyed. So will the marsh. It is a losing game mankind has played for more than a century. Sadness is what you are, do not deny it. The universe is a lonely place, a painful place. This is what we can share between us, period.

Now that she's made it through the clay & grass season her chances are higher!

Vera Zvonareva * Ana Ivanović * Li Na * Laura Robson ......

Re: Will Wozniacki eclipse this Navratilova-held record?

I don't think the era matters. The juniors are still playing, they're just in ITFs now rather than WTA. And even in ITF Wozniacki never lost to a younger player. Of the above list only Robson has never lost to a younger player. So it's not like it has become easier over time.

i'm very confused

Jelena Jankovic
- She used to know how to play tennis...
Jumping over career opportunities since 2006...
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
As her fans watch in awe at her ability to fuck that up...

Victoria Azarenka ~ Venus Williams
Maria Kirilenko ~ Petra Kvitova

The phrasing was confusing. Never is the word that really throws it off I think.
The statistic/record is the age that a player first lost to a player younger than herself. Caroline has not lost to anyone younger than herself.

I don't get the record... I don't think its such a huge deal, I mean Caro has lost to players her same age (Cornet, Cirstiea, Lisicki etc.)

She would be most likely to lose to Pav anyway.

Re: Will Wozniacki eclipse this Navratilova-held record?

It wouldnt surprise me if she didnt lose to a younger player for a while.
When she went to hardcourts last summer she lost to Bartoli, then won Rogers Cup, won NH, lost to Vera, won Tokyo, won Beijing, lost to Kim in the YEC final. And Sam in RR
Then this year AO SF to Li, won Dubai, lost to Vera, won IW.

She doesnt lose much on hardcourt and not to noncontenders, judging from last year

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE
