Bastad ballboys

Bastad ballboys and girls are carrying some sort of a net or basket which they use to scoop up tennis balls.

I've never seen such a thing. Does any other tournament do this?

Maria Kirilenko Petra Kvitová Stefanie Vögele
Arvidsson A. Bondarenko Chakvetadze Cirstea Görges Hlaváčková
Kerber Krajicek Larričre Lisicki Pivovarova Rus Šafářová

Re: Bastad ballboys

I can't find the picture of the net but i noticed another peculiar thing.
Ball boys and girls bow to the crowd before they take their position.
What nice manners!

Re: Bastad ballboys

If it-s like a racquet with a net, it was used in all tournaments played in Austria I remember years ago watching then in Eurosport in ATP and WTA... what I do not remember is if it was used also on clay (Kitzbuehel I miss the Alps summer swing with Gstaad and this, great clay tournaments ) or only in indoors (Viena and Linz)

Re: Bastad ballboys

Anyone else read that as "Bastard ballboys"?

"If you practice for ten years, you may begin to please yourself, after 20 years you may become a performer and please the audience, after 30 years you may please even your guru, but you must practice for many more years before you finally become a true artist—then you may please even God." --Ali Akbar Khan, 1922-2009

Seen them lots of times.

I thought that they were only use by lazy Club players with no Ballbuoys.

Re: Bastad ballboys

These ballnet-thingys have been used in Swedish ATP tournaments for a long time. I guess it´s some sort of tradition that they wanna continue with on the women´s tournaments as well.

Re: Bastad ballboys

Too pratical for my liking.

Clumsiness and mishaps make the charm of ballboys/ballgirls, training these kids to be efficient like a factory worker is just too much
