Wimbledon + 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon = Too Much?

This type of ponderation about next year must already have been posted, so I'm sorry in advance for that, but I just wanted some input...

Next year, we're going to have Wimbledon and almost immediately after that we're going to have the Olympics, which are.....at Wimbledon. Isn't that like an overdose of Wimbledon? Do you think the Olympics should be held on hard courts to assure coincidence with the tour calendar? Don't you think that it's weird to mix the traditional ambient of Wimbledon with the loud, cheery and patriotic-oriented one of the Olympics?

Grass season is too short anyway. This will give us some balance for once. And it'll be nice to see a bit of a different atmosphere at Wimby and players wearing some color. I honestly can't wait!

What's the point of taking Olympics to London and not holding tennis event on grass?

It'll be like having 4 Summer slams. There is too much time between Wimbledon and the USO anyways.

Wimbledon + Olympics + ATP World Tour Finals. 3 majors in one year in a city.
It's definately too much.

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: Wimbledon + 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon = Too Much?

The US hardcourt season is immediately gonna start after the Olympics, leaving no time for the players to recover and train their ass off. One thing's sure: it will increase the chance of injury break-outs for next year (well we should be thankful that it's played on grass and not clay for example which drains the body even more).

The fact that it's played on grass makes it a bit more predictable as to who will win though.

I feel like it's only fair that we have one of the modern Olympic games on grass since Barca in 1992 was on clay and Sydney was maybe Rebound Ace (dunno exactly, I forget).

It's cool and different and gives a "6 week" grass court season to combat the 6 week clay season.

Re: Wimbledon + 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon = Too Much?

firstly, Wimbledon have already checked the courts with various trials and the grass coverage will be no problem

secondly, it will give many tennis fans the opportunity to visit the show courts

thirdly, i just hope not too many seats get wrecked if Ivan Ljubičić meets Novak Djokovic

Its gonna be exiting. I like the idea of the Olympics being held at Wimbledon. I don't think the same player will win twice in 2012 on it though .

I have no Idea how the grass its gonna look, but as I don't get enough of Wimbledon every single year, having "two" of them in a year its incredible .

Is this the first time Olympic tennis will be on grass?
