Question What country would they play for if...

What country would players play for if we went off of their ethnicity not solely where they have citizenship... last name, parents nationalities/ethicity, etc. i.e. yes, I'm american, but I'm majority Italian, since many of my family comes from there.

Get it?

So what countries would the players represent if we went by this? Thought it'd be interesting to see how much it would change, if at all.

Wozniacki would be polish
I heard somewhere on here that "Stosur" is a Polish last name, she would be Polish...

Continue the list...

Jelena Jankovic
- She used to know how to play tennis...
Jumping over career opportunities since 2006...
As her fans watch in awe at her ability to fuck that up...

Victoria Azarenka ~ Venus Williams
Maria Kirilenko ~ Petra Kvitova

Re: What country would they play for if...

nationality, history and ethnicity have certain affect over a players abbilities.
however, having a backhand (stosur) is more important.
i'm very happy you feel italian, i love the country myself - it still has nothing to do with tennis.

if you have nothing important to say, please do so in non-tennis forum. if you have something you think is important, but is actually rubbish regarding anything other than tennis - please do so in the non-tennis forum. if you have something tennis related to say, but it's actually "OMG, X player is so h0t!1" or "who has the biggest boobs on the wtatour" please do so in menstennisforum, under "wta forum". if you have something important, tennis-related and interesting to say please do so. No one in the world can understand how much tennis means to someone, except another fan.

Re: What country would they play for if...

So....your asking what countries do players last names come from...That would of been better way of asking the question...

MARIA SHARAPOVA-RUS
Agnieszka Radwanska-POL
Li Na-CHN
JELENA JANKOVIC-SRB
HANTUCHOVA-SVK

"Congratulations Maria on winning the Career Grand Slam!!! "

Well, none of them would be from North, Centre or South America, that's for sure.

Well obviously there are the Russian defectors like Shvedova, Galina V, Rodionova etc, but I don't think surnames matter that much. My surname originates in China, but I have absolutely no Chinese ancestry, it's just a name.

Monica Seles - Hungary

If she was born before WWI, she would've represented Austria-Hungary.

Re: What country would they play for if...

It is kind of different to ask for a players ethnicity rather than last name, Stosur may have have a Polish last name on her fathers side, but her mother may be Sanchez for all we know.

anyway going by last name...
Molik - Polish
Dellacqua - Italian
Peers - English
Rogowska - Polish
Ferguson - Irish/Scotish
Moore - Scotish/English
Letcher - English
Patterson - Scotish
Adamczak - Polish
Mirkovic - Serbian
Wlodarczak - Polish
Bobusic - Serbia
Wejnert - Polish
Filipou - Greek

...and I couldn't be bothered doing the rest.
