tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

i don't understand all the fuss around Vika being the best clay courter or Goerges being a favourite to FO title...
i'm a fan of Vika, but Rome will tell us much more than the last two premiers.
Everyone knows Madrid and Stuttgart for different reasons can hardly be classified as clay unless you consider clay whatever is red and you can slide on it. Both are much much faster courts than the ones the players will find now in Rome and later in Paris.
if i was forced to bet my money i would rather wait for the next week's results instead of going with the flow by doing it now...

may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.

no real red clay included Barcelona, Fes and Estoril

last year the Barcelona champ went on to lift the RG trophy so this year the champ will be Vinci

Re: tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

When it is warm and sunny Paris plays like a hardcourt/fast claycourt as well and most of the time it is.

I am not a fan of the direction a lot of Maria threads have taken over the last 12 months.

The undertone is very disappointing, aggressive and the comments are sometimes rude to a player just trying to earn a living, playing her hardest and having a good amount of success given her god given, natural talents.
You made the list: Cibulkova (President), Mladenovic, Wozniacki, Kerber, Cornet, Watson.
Please note this is a signature about Tatjana Maria

yes and this is shameful for the wta that you have 3 weeks of clay, 3 of grass and maybe 3 in indoor and everything else is on HC

you are right, but the field isn't so good that you can understand the level of the contenders on the surface

obviously if you look at just the results you don't understand anything about tennis, because you can have your luckiest week in your life when everything works and achieve a great result, much greater than your real potential as well as having a nightmare of a week, but for sure you will see who has to game to make it at the FO much more in Rome than in the 2 tournaments i named before

may your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.

Re: tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

Hard court is the new clay And clay is turning into hard court. You're right though. Madrid isn't similar to FO but on the men's side Madrid winners went on to win the FO too

Re: tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

Rome is more a hard court than a clay court, even Sampras was able to win there

Yup, European claycourts are ridiculously fast this year (Marbella and especially Madrid) while USA hardcourts in IW and Miami were slower than ass. When I was watching Federer - Lopez I thought it´s playing on orange grass...unbelievably fast, almost no rallies. Already Q matches gave us some signs. If Zuzana Kucova is winning 16 points in a row behind her serve you know there is something wrong...also those enormous numbers of aces.

Re: tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

None of them really make much difference, especially not these days, since RG itself is so varied and dependent on the conditions.

Didn't someone do the stats for how many times the RG champ came from the Rome/Berlin/Charleston winner a while ago?

Re: tournaments on REAL clay still have to start

Alexandra reached quarterfinal Miami on Hard
Got blew off the court by Kvitova in Madrid on clay

enough said...

But I'm curious to look at Brussels because forecasts predicted some rain and cooler weather there...

Right... anybody with a right mind knows that Vika isn't the best clay courter... she's in very good form but not the best clay courter...

And as for Julia it's the bandwagoners who create all the fuss around her... Julia is doing very well but RG is another dimension and there is still plenty of tennis to be played in between.

Genie - Victoria - Kristina.
