Comeback of a tennis nation: Germany gets two girls top20 and a guy top10 doubles

Well, that´s the proof for the USA and other dominators of the 80ies and 90ies: There´s still hope!

Germany surprisingly quick gets two girls top20 and for both of them either Paris or Wimbledon promises to become something big

Furthermore, Petzschner is top10 in male doubles

So, quite quietly, Germany rose again. With Lisicki coming back and -if ever- Grönefeld climbing back the doubles´ rankings, Germany has a promising future

What´s missing is a continueity to see Petko or Görges prove themselves in the following two Grand Slams. Görges should do extremely damage on both surfaces and has quite a good draw ahead of her thinking of her playing Schiavone, Kanepi or whatever in Wimbledon f.e., not to think of Wozniacki ;-)

Jk I don't dislike either of them but I think they still have a ways to go before breaking through in Grand Slams

I don't think Goerges will do something cool at GS... she's a bad copy of Aravane, in a few months she will suck like South America's season.
Andrea is consistent, she could even enter Top 10 going on this way
Sabine is my favourite and probably the best of them

Sure, if I close my eyes they look exactly the same

I think Julia already proved here in Madrid that she's definitely not an Aravane 2.0. She's playing with risk, yes, but she's not a ballbasher like Rezai. She reminds me more on Vaidisova, just with the ability to win a bigger event. I'm sure there will be a time where she will play worse again, but on the other hand she's able to win something really big, unlike Petkovic, who seems too fragile mentally. If we compare the both Julia could have an Ivanovic career and Andrea a Jankovic career.

N. VAIDISOVA - T. GOLOVIN - A. BONDARENKO - A. SZAVAY
D. HANTUCHOVA - A. PAVLYUCHENKOVA - E. VESNINA - E. SVITOLINA
J. GOERGES - A. WOZNIAK - Y. WICKMAYER - E. BOUCHARD - Ka. PLISKOVA

I still regard Lisicki to the best out of the three, but Görges is definitely impressing me with her strong mind. She is playing like she has been at the top for years, and that is a very good thing to predict future succes.

Thank you for all these moments over the last years! Supported you until your final point!

Groenefeld was in top 15 back in 2006

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Is Julia top 20 with her win today?
Really?

Only if Cibulkova won't reach the final.

Re: Comeback of a tennis nation: Germany gets two girls top20 and a guy top10 doubles

Top21 is guaranteed by now

I believe that we´ll soon have 3 very solid top40 players if Sabine Lisicki -at least after AO 2012- makes her way back

Wonder what this means for A) Olympics 2012 and B) for another WTA event in 2013

Barbara Rittner is trying to install a second WTA event in Halle when the ATP event takes place. No idea if Halle will try to become a 10-day-event. This would be a sensational event with all Germans taking part. I predict though this won´t happen for another year and 2013 the earliest, so no chance for the Williams (probably) to play in Germany. But that would be a highlight for German fans. Imagine the WTA event to be installed with a show match in doubles with Steffi and Rittner and the current two best girls, Görges and Petkovic (or Lisicki, at that time)

Re: Comeback of a tennis nation: Germany gets two girls top20 and a guy top10 doubles

What??? Görges to be top10 after Madrid? Didn´t know THAT one.
See her losing against Azarenka though. The power won´t be there.

I have to compliment the one of you guys that predicted an Ivanovic for Görges and a Jankovic for Petkovic. I would go with that one regarding their career-predictions, too.

I would say that due to the seedings and their current form, Andrea´s and Julia´s run at the GS could be the following:

Paris - Andrea quarterfinal, Julia quarterfinal
Wimbledon - Andrea 3rd round (not her surface), Julia 4th round (if not better)
US Open - Andrea 4th round, Julia 2nd round

I see Sabine with the following

Paris - 2nd round after qualifying
Wimbledon - 2nd round after qualifying
US Open - 3rd round

I wouldn't say Germany comes back unless they have a top ten player on both ATP and WTA.
