How does Wozniacki compare to the top "villains" in tennis history?

It's no secret that the majority do not like her here for whatever reason. A lot of posters would love to see her get hurt, humiliated or embarrassed. She's obviously not a bad player at all.
But how does she compare to others in the past? Like Justine, Navratilova etc? Is she more liked? more hated?

She doesn't.

It's been a frustrating last 5-6 years and without Serena, Justine, Sharapova at the #1 spot at least for a little while the WTA would have been shit.

Re: How does Wozniacki compare to the top "villains" in tennis history?

A lot of posters are negative towards her, but I've never seen the public at an event go against her. Well, Stuttgart, but she was playing a German. She's not a villain in the traditional way. Hell, the only time Henin was REALLY a villain was Australia '06. The other times she was obnoxious in a match the crowd was still behind her.

Navratilova for a long stretch was genuinely disliked by the American public, which was the tennis market that mattered, and I'm not talking about the tennis-viewing public. Nobody will ever compare to Navratilova in terms of genuine pop-culture villain-hood.

Wozniacki doesn't permeate into pup culture nearly as much, especially state-side but not even in Europe. Henin was pretty genuinely highly regarded in Europe, and pretty genuinely anonymous in terms of U.S. consciousness. Neither compares.

Wozniacki doesn't have enough personality to be a villain.

And here you are, a black unicorn.
Mythical and mystical since the day that you were born.

Hmmm...guessing by general TF opinion (and since that is the most factually accurate of all the tennis opinions out there)I'd put her one ahead of Shino , but one behind the guy who left a glass lying around on the floor of a German bar.

The girl has enough haters to be a villain. Especially on these forums.

Re: How does Wozniacki compare to the top "villains" in tennis history?

The main reason people dont like her is because she is one of many players recently who have gotten to number 1 without a grand slam. It started with Kim in 03, as well as Mauresmo, but both those players went on to win grand slams and had been consistently taking it to the top players when they got to the top.

Now, 3 players have been at the top without grand slam wins at all in their resume's. I think people are just getting sick of it, and they take it out on her, when she herself isnt really doing anything wrong, she just represents a group of players now that can get to number 1, and not really be a huge threat at slams.

I think they just need to increase the points you get when you win a grandslam, and maybe that would correct the problem. But the tour doesnt want that, it wants to reward the people that play 20 tournies a year, and that needs to change.

The message boards hated her before she was number 1...
Then it band-wagoned from there and everyone was convinced by one another that the girl is not deserving or it was her fault that the tour was a mess.
Incidentally, they overlooked some players that have actually taken advantage of situations and got slams while playing bad or had generous draws.

Davenport was also #1 without having won a slam for the past year. So it's not like it's anything new that you can reach #1 without a slam title in your ranking points.

Re: How does Wozniacki compare to the top "villains" in tennis history?

There were no greater "villains" in the history of this board than two wildly successful but disenchanted sisters that are not playing right now. NOBODY! I used to think it was in people's head until I realized people really maligned them.

So people around here don't like Caroline. There will be somebody in 3-5 years that will take her place. Big deal.

Remember folks there are THOUSANDS of members on this board. It amazes me after almost ten years, people are still sensitive about negative comments around here.

I used to be one of those sensitive idiots but it's not even worth my energy anymore.
