Ana's unprofessional conduct...

I just heard that Ana withdrew from her doubles match because she blew 87576534216576542 matchpoints in her singles match. I'm sure it's a tough loss for her but using it as an excuse not to play a scheduled doubles match is a poor pathetic excuse.

I mean, what about Petkovic who might want to play and go on to win the doubles title? Isn't it unfair that her partner ran away because she didn't have to balls to move on. What about people who paid to watch the event? Should WTA punish this kind of behavior?

Yes it does, but that doesn't make it right! I love doubles and get annoyed that it is now treated the way it is by players. Long gone are the days of Martina and McEnroe. Hingis also loved doubles and brought so much to them. She actually preferred doubles to singles believing she was a better doubles player. The best matches I have often seen when going to tournaments have been doubles as you see such a variety of shots and there is often great sportsmanship.

This isn't an Ana malaise, it's across the board. I think the players are silly as doubles enhances a player's game and they can enhance their bank balance too. There is more in it for them than they may think!

Monica Seles Superstar. Her fans never forget.

Players I root for now: Heather, Laura, Lucie, Marion, Serena, Simona, Svetlana, Venus, Vika. And Caroline.
Doubles and Mixed Doubles are fun and underrated.

I'm sure that's a mutual decision. Petko had a tough match as well and she reached the semis, so she probably would like to concentrate on upcoming single match

Re: Ana's unprofessional conduct...

How sure are you that that's reason? Like Serezha said, it could've been a mutual decision since Petkovic had a long, tiring match too. And with the abysmal weather in Miami, it was probably the right the decision for Petkovic as well. If it continues to rain for the next few days, she could be playing two matches in one day.

Having long and tiring singles matches, even as a mutual decision does not give a doubles pair an excuse not to play. What part of that is not clear?

Serena had to endure long matches, both singles and doubles in Melbourne last year and yet played, and won them. The point is, these are scheduled events, with tickets and probably TV coverage and people paying to see them.

Completely agree. It does annoy me, especially in high-tariff events like Miami because I'm sure there are a few teams who missed the cut-off for the doubles draw and travelled all the way to Miami to find out they didn't even make the cut. It must be pretty annoying when a team can't be bothered to finish off the commitment they made.

Re: Ana's unprofessional conduct...

should be a mutual decision~
guess Petko wouldn't want to spend too much energy on doubles either. would rather focusing on her singles semi~
