Will Dokic build on her recent form?

Obviously Dokic fans were ecstatic about her win in Kuala Lumpur, and rightly so after such a long wait between titles and everything she has been through.

However, do people think this is a sign of a career revival or will she continue to be maddeningly inconsistent or even drop completely off the radar again?

There are examples of her demonstrating flashes of brilliance in the past only to fall away again. The 2009 Australian Open is an obvious example. But also last year when she won a number of ITF titles in the summer only to lose in the first round of the USO qualifying. But her success last week is obviously greater than these examples and coupled with her QF in Paris suggests she might build on it.

For my part I do think she could stick around this level, but even at her peak she was always inconsistent. The issues are still there, particularly with movement, but also the serve if its not clicking then she really struggles. So I would anticipate her to stay top 100 this season with maybe a foray towards the lower end of the top 50 but probably not much more, and I don't know if she'll win another title. Nonetheless, even if she doesn't build on this win I'm sure it will be savoured, just curious to see whether people see it as a one-off or a sign of things to come.

No. She will lose R1 in Indian Wells.

If that's true, I don't think it's such a bad move, really. Better to win a tournament like that and build more momentum, as opposed to being kicked out R1 in IW.

well she will need to pull of major upsets from now on till her ranking improves. even if she were to play IW, she could just as easily draw Kim or some other top player- byt that won't mean she is not improving.

Rena- a tennis great! 22 at striking distance.

Sh'll finish the year between 30 and 40.

I hope she gets a WC in Bali and gets a lot of points on the ultra fast surface.
Top 30 is doable IMO

Too early to ask this question...

Just wait until at least the French Open.

Re: Will Dokic build on her recent form?

I think it all comes down to Jelena's fitness and health - The motivation is clearly there right now, which is something that I think has been questioned in the past given her issues with depression and personal family battles. The last couple of seasons have been so inconsistent though, because she'll get on a bit of a roll then she'll get injured, disappear for a couple months etc. Too much stop and start. When Dokic is healthy and fit, I think she can go back into the top 30. She improves so much with the more matches she gets from week to week, so as long as she can physically go out there and do that, I think she'll be in good position to keep building on her win.

"Religion has actually convinced people that there is an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. Any if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But he loves you."

Re: Will Dokic build on her recent form?

Jelena's achieved a consistent string of solid results in the past few months at as opposted to some results which just come across as a bit of a flash in the pan (e.g. Australian Open 2009) so it does give me belief she'll continue to regain ground in the rankings but Jelena's such an enigma so I don't like to make any bold predictions about what she can do.

Re: Will Dokic build on her recent form?

Who knows?

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Seeing as she's not playing there, somehow I doubt that will happen.

Re: Will Dokic build on her recent form?

If she remains healthy, I see no reason why she won't continue becoming more consistent with her results and climb inside the top 30 by the end of the year.
