Any word on Venus' injury?

Heard lots of stuff about Serena but haven't heard a word on Venus' painful injury from the Aussi Open. Anyone heard anything and when she might be returning?

RIP Elena Baltacha, thank you for dedicating your life to a sport we all love. You'll be missed but never forgotten.

Re: Any word on Venus' injury?

She hasn't specifically referred to that injury (as far as I know) but she's been in the gym recently and there's a video of her hitting with her friend Bryant Mckinnie so she must be okay

I think she'll come back in Miami

Is there any creature on earth as unfortunate as an ugly woman?

I hope this is the year she decides to skip the clay court season.

Venus doesn't need to skip anything. We don't see enough of her as is. LOL

Providing Venus is fit I can't for the life of me imagine why she would skip the clay season. Venus did pretty well on clay last year, reaching the quarters at Rome, finals in Madrid and 4th round at RG. In my book that is very solid.

If Venus were to skip the clay season this year she would quite probably find herself out of the top 30, unless she had a very good result in Miami, something I don't think one could count on.

Rankings don't mean as much to Venus on grass as they do other people. Other than Kim and Serena, I can't see who would have a better chance at Wimbledon than Venus. Ranking has very little to do with it. At the stage of her career, she should be trying to rack up a few more Slams.

Yes. She was out of shape in Melbs and subsequently was injured. I'm not too sure why she made the trek down there, however, she must have thought she had a shot. I really believe that USO semi run instilled a lot of confidence in her.

Re: Any word on Venus' injury?

Unlike Serena's, that injury looked pretty straightforward, and it's been a month(isn't the psoas supposed to take something like two-three weeks to heal?) I'm pretty sure she's fine.

And lawl, why would she skip the clay season when it'll get in some great practice, and a Madrid final is not something she wants to let just drop off, especially since she also has a final at Madrid. Yeah yeah, we know she or Serena could just "show up" to a slam, esp Wimbledon, and win, but it's not ideal to enter the tournament ranked so low that you'll have to face a tough seed in the early rounds.

Agree. I'm actually a lot more confident about Venus shortterm than I am about Serena. Whereas, there is no telling what one can expect from Serena over the next few months, with Venus I am pretty confident her most recent injury should be fine by Miami. The one concern with Venus is that she does strike me as quite brittle these days and there does always seem a threat that the next injury could be just around the corner. Hopefully that does not prove to be the case.

As for Wimbledon, there have been numerous occasions over the years when Venus has turned up at Wimbledon not playing her best and quite vunerable in the early rounds. Sometimes she has gotten away with and improved as the tournament went on (Kudryavetseva, Cavaday) but there have been other times when she has been caught out in those early rounds(Jankovic, Sprem) and been sent home early. I don't see that playing a full clay season should affect her chances at Wimbledon. I would actually think they would help safe guard her against an early defeat.

Good to know she's hitting again hope she can go on a bit of a tear at some point cause when she's confident she's such a massive threat
