Do you think that our current top seeds have become the players to lead WTA ?

So now we have world number 1 2 and 3 in SF as Venus was injured so it is a slightly an exception ( personally, I don't support her playing AO )

As many people don't feel satisfied to see our number1 and 2 to be Miss Congeniality and Miss Pattaya 2010 in the top spots, what do you feel? Because looking at the record for last couple of years, since Wimbledon 2009, Grand Slam SF has never consisted of more than one top seed.

Do you think that our current top seeds have become the players to lead WTA ?

For additional information, US open 2010, the three top seeds were in Semifinal and the other one was the current number 2, Vera Zvonareva.

It takes a little more than a couple of semis/finals at the slams and Pattaya City titles to become a leader of the WTA.

I'd rather have Ivanovic winning slams

Back to the question: I don't really have a problem with Wozniacki at number 1 (although some of her fans are making it easier for me to change my mind), but I find her game style for a number 1 .....interesting. I used to believe that the matches played by the so called champs more often than not depended on their racquets, not the opponent.

But credit to Caro, she's Ms. Consistent. She's not faltering and her opponents are just making UEs.

But despite what she says, she really needs to win a GS to shut down the criticism. That goes for Vera too.

Re: Do you think that our current top seeds have become the players to lead WTA ?

For the moment I am perfectly happy to aknowledge Wozniacki, Zvonareva and Clijsters as being the 3 best players in the world. Personally, They are not my favourite players out there to be honest although I respect them all and I do quite like Vera. Also I should add while I am not a Wozniacki fan I certainly do not share the hostility towards her that others have.

This hardly means they will still be the three best players in the world in one year. Clijsters is getting older she has a lot of off court distractions and she isn't going to be around for that much longer, perhaps a year or two. Vera as well is 26 and while she is definately deserving of her place right now it the top 3 we will have to wait and see for how long she is able to maintain this standard of play. Wozniacki is more likely than the other two to be around in the top 5 for some years to come but even with her you never really know what the future will hold. Tennis is littered with players who have great success in the teen years and/or early 20s but fade quickly. I'm not saying Wozniacki is likely to fade away in the next could of years but you never know in this game.

I do think if we want to look into the future of how the ranking are going to look in the future we shouldn't look into the past. We are not going to go back to a period where the top four are the Williams sisters, Clijsters and Henin. It's not going to happen. The Williams sisters and Henin may have an isolated good result in the future but they are very very unlikely to ever return to being dominate forces in the game again.

Nothing stays the same in tennis. No player remains the same. Some are improving, some, due to various things ranging from injuries, age and motivation are declining. And so it will always be. Because Wozniacki, Clijsters and Zvonareva are right now the best players in the world it doesn't mean they will remain so. But while the rankings are constanting changing, they are moving forwards not backwards, and we need to start looking forwards not backwards too.

Re: Do you think that our current top seeds have become the players to lead WTA ?

I don't like the term "lead" in a sport that is not team orientated. But I think I can understand your question.

Yes I think that Caro and Vera has shown enough potential to be considered among the "leading" players of the WTA.
At least for the time being.
I think they both deserve their current rank and should be credited for their individual efforts to reach it.

Whether or not they will develop a game that will allow them to dominate the tour in the same convincing style as previous WTA legends, only time will tell. But personally I think both girls has a bright future ahead of them. And I hope they can maintain the fine form they have shown during the past year or so.

I am not mentioning Kim. Because she has already proven years ago that she belongs in the top. And she continues to do so.

Its sport. There's no lead. Maybe you mean dominant, like Tiger Woods used to be?
No, they arent dominant, but right now the big events go thru these 3, whether its majors, YEC or Tier I's.
It could change. I expect none of them to win the FO.

Well put. And to further the point, I quote Li and McEnroe, who said respectively "Serena William's isn't here", and "The reason Wozniacki is number 1 is that Serena only played six tournaments last year"

If Serena isn't going to be on the court, she can't be the best player.

We haven't got that particular combination of achievement and star power at the top of the tour, but as players of the game, we're seeing some good tennis. Put aside the multi-slam winners, and look at the rest of the top players. Wozniacki, Zvonareva, Schiavone, and Li all play with purpose. They don;t just hit shots. Stosur ..... her game is massive, but she doesn't adjust mid-match very well.

As for the rest .... JJ may yet get it together again. Azarenka is exhibit A for just whacking the ball with no real thought toward building a point.

Proud to be an American
Not blind. Not uninformed. We are party to atrocities. But the response of the world after 9/11 is worth noting. Even our most dire enemies offered aid. We should all be so lucky.

There is no one dominating the Tour, not even last year. The last real domination was Henin in 2007, Pova was well on her way in '08 before her shoulder blotted out.
