Just saw her at juniors' draw and the abrreviation code is CAL. I heard she's French but not sure what country she represents. Never seen this code before.

Re: where is Anaeve Pain from ???

Wow, I think it's fair to say we have never had a player representing New Caledonia at this level before?

Actually, have their been any players that have come out of the Pacific island nations?

I know Steffi Carruthers from Samoa played in the junior qualifying event. Also there are the Tere-Apisah sisters from PNG. I think it is great to see some trail blazers from any country, no matter how small the trail may be

New Caledonia is a French colony, that's why you got the impression that she is French. New Caledonia is one of the biggest islands (not counting New Zealand) in the Pacific Ocean.

Re: where is Anaeve Pain from ???

Anaeve Pain is a french player from New Caledonia, like Elodie Rogge-Dietrich ranked around 500.

New caledonian white people are : "caldoches"
New caledonian black people are : "Kanaks"

Christian Karembeu, soccer world champion in 1998 with French team, is a KANAK like Wanaro N'Godrella who reached Australian Open 1/4 finals in 1973.
Anaeve Pain, like Elodie Rogge-Dietrich, are Caldoches.

Maybe but since they speak French on New Caledonia, "Pain" does not mean pain but bread. And it's pronounced with the "ai" like in "has". No clue what Anaeve might mean tough.

Re: where is Anaeve Pain from ???

In French, we say Pain like we say Pin.

Camille Pin : "Pin" is a tree
Anačve Pain : "Pain" means bread

The girl in yellow on the right is Anačve Pain : PIC

Funny, I thought I was good at Geography, where's New Caledonia?

The belief that man is an irresolute creature pulled this way and that by two forces of equal strength, alternately winning and losing the battle for his soul; the conviction that human life is nothing more than an uncertain struggle between heaven and hell; the faith in two opposed entities, Satan and Christ - all this was bound to engender those internal discords in which the mind, excited by the incessant fighting, stimulated as it were by the constant promises and threats, ends up by giving in and prostitutes itself to whichever of the two combatants has been more obstinate in its pursuit. Life isn't black and white, it's gold.

Re: where is Anaeve Pain from ???

New Caledonia is French. "sui generis collectivity of France" says wiki. We've got the same president, same laws... Don't mean to hurt new caledonians posters, ofc, but as of 2011, New Caledonia is a part of France. And one of the most beautiful parts, btw.
