Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

She's my Lena D replacement and has the game to do it but damn I'm tired of waiting. What is going with her? I hope she's not another Nicole Vaidisova.

She doesnt have a serve nor does she have the fitness required for a grinder.

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

Her serve is woeful. Last year her serve wasn't that bad against serena, this year her serve is just regressing

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

She hasnt power!!! its fine, that she can hit the ball clear, but when she plays against players with more power, she can do anything...and that second serve is terrible, from beginnig of the game she is under press.

Vaidisova actually had weapons that could take over a match.

Azarenka is just at the mercy of her opponents. She can't hurt anyone good.

LMFAO. Guys she lost to an opponent who, when on as she was today, can beat anyone. She's not dead.

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

She's one of the best returners on tour (in fact topped the return stats back in 2009). You gotta feel her mind games still prevent her from making the ultimate break through as currently it's more then obvious the Miami win was a false dawn...

She doesn't have the weapons. That forehand is just not good enough.

To paraphrase Jefferson on Franklin, No one replaces Lena D., Vika merely succeeds her as your favorite player. (Mine, too, as it happens).

But yes, Na was on fire tonight. Vika will have some other chances.

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

Oh and by the way, her fastest serve and average first and second serve seeds tonight were faster than Na's. And she had a higher percentage. I wouldn't call that useless.

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

Her game pales in comparison to Elena D. I suggest finding another replacement. She should be a good 10-15 player though.

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

Say it again. People are acting like Vika is a fucking random scrub pusher now. Na was on fire today, there was nothing she, or anyone else, could do.

I don't know if Vika will ever "break through" but her career isn't awful. She's won some titles, beaten some big names and she's progressed at a pretty decent rate. I'd rather her be a late bloomer than peak early and flame out young a la Vaidisova.

Re: Victoria Azarenka: Will she ever breakthrough?

I'm starting to doubt it. She's still stuck in a kind of no man's zone between being an effective aggressive baseliner and being a consistent defensive-minded one. She's not big or strong enough for the former, but she's not fast enough for the latter either. If she really wants to win a Slam she needs to trim the extra fat still on her and bulk up to develop a point ending groundstroke or two. The sad part is I'm not sure she wants it badly enough to go through the trouble of all this. I would really like her to maximize her potential.
