The decline of Venus and Justine signals that the WTA has finally bottomed out...

and the game can evolve naturally, as the younger generations development was marred by the resilience and endurance of the big 4... and apparently and maybe surprisingly Wozniacki will take the role that Martina Hingis did in the final Graf days, and be the liaison between different eras until a stronger generation of players overpowers her consistency, the way the "big babes" did with the Swiss Miss... the question remains about the slightly older generation of Sharapova and Ivanovic, if they will be a factor or just fade away with little glory... If tennis history teaches us anything, is that we are probably 3 to 4 years away from another golden era...

There has been no big 4 for years.

Daniela Hantuchova.

Casey Dellacqua, Jelena Jankovic, Anna-Lena Groenefeld,
Jelena Dokic, Mirjana Lucic, Sara Tomic, Sloane Stephens
Melanie Oudin, Kaia Kanepi, Alison Riske

I can't say much for Justine because lord knows how she can capture her glory years (ie. never)

But saying Venus is in decline is
Sure her form at the exhos have been less than convincing, but it was clear in AO she was injured.
I'm surprised she managed to hang on and beat Zahlavova in R2 after losing the second set.
Until she really is healthy and beaten (and if so, beaten handily) then we can revisit this topic.

And besides, their decline > most of tour.

I think you're jumping the gun just a bit talking about decline. Venus got hurt. It happens. She'll recover and she'll be back. Justine plays one bad match and all of a sudden she's in decline? Why are you in such a hurry to bury there careers? Until some of these others step up (i.e. Woz, Stosur, Zvonareva, Azarenka, etc.) I will still think of Vee and Justine along with Serena and Kim as the ones to beat. Don't be surprised when Justine wins Roland Garros and Vee wins Wimby and all those others are still left wondering when they will win!

Venus & Serena Forever

What are you talking about? Justine already retired once in the past, together with her compatriot, but yet the new generation failed to snatch the momentum and take over the reigns! That didn't happen in the past.

Err.. there have only been 4 ladies who have won multiple grand slams and dominated the tour as #1 and won 30+ titles in the past decade

Serena, Ju, Venus, Kim

Maybe with Maria close too.

Henin hasn't won a slam since 2007
Venus hasn't won a slam since 2008 and she hasn't won a slam that wasn't Wimbledon since 2001

I think it's safe to say that there really isn't a big 4 anymore

I always wanted to be somebody. If I made it, it's half because I was game enough to take a lot of punishment along the way and half because there were a lot of people who cared enough to help me.

My Point exactly. One bad day at the office and now we are suppose to write them off.mmmmmmm no not just yet folks, hold ur horses lil phillies ahahahah but seriously Venus was hurt that was obvious. Justine, needs to get her confidence going again. Now what is wrong with the other girls. They need to step up regardless and they are not consistently doing this.

caro, vera and sam have never won a slam, i think it's safe to say that henin and venus are just as relevant if not more than those 3.

Anna Chakvetadze Rules

Kim Clijsters - Supporting the comeback!

I have no other faves, I just hate

Kim hasn't won a slam that wasn't the USO since.. FOREVER.
Lord knows I could care less about Serena's lesser sister achievements but implying winning only Wimbledon ain't shit is just wrong.

And there was NEVER a big four. There was a big 3 with some bitches trying to hang on (Sharapova or Clijsters tried it). Now there's a big one and that's about it.

Did I mention them at all? There's Serena, Kim and then everyone else.

What transition? The last time I checked, the current slam holders were Kim-Serena-Fran-Serena.
The year before that: Kim-Serena-Sveta-Serena.
More like a holding pattern with a little change-up to keep things interesting.

Someone is quietly turning back the clock...to them bulldozer dayz...

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.
