Future top players.

Currently there top womens game is dominated with women who are regarded as the older genenration. If they were wines they would be fine wines but as it is tennis (especially women's) we expect a younger crop to excellerate and knock these girls off the top shelf - so to speak. We are all aware of baby fat and slamless Kleybs but who else besides these and the obvious Petkovic, Wozniacki, and Vika do you expect to be a force in the WTA to make it slightly more interesting.

Sharapova is still young but she has been around for years and it honestly feels like it has been decades since she has achieved anythig worthwhiles mentionine; no disregard to her or her fans. Jovanovski is a fingers behind the back crossed as well as Kvitova but I am always expecting a few more to creep through.

My list for breakthroughs include:

Sevastova (never made it past the 2nd round of a grandslam until AO11) Only 21. Also has beaten Jankovic (not a great deal) and Stosur '10.

Ayumi Morita - have had high hopes for this gurl but has always under performed against players she should defeat.

They are my two picks. In the coming 12-18 months I expect them to break into the top 40 (Morita) and top 15 (Sevastova)

Who do you think?

Re: Future top players.

Well, losing to Sevastova was last loss to Jankovic before getting the Indian Wells and start her comparatively well pre-Wimbledon season. And when losing to Sevastova Stosur was in not so bad form.

I don't really get your high hopes for Morita - she is more probably getting bagled than beating "a player she should defeat".Trugh is that there are lots of Japanese and Australian players ranked higher than they deserve as competition in Asia-Pacific ITF events is much lower than European ITF events.

Re: Future top players.

It is Azarenka and Wozniacki's time to shine!

Jovanovski and Kvitova will also do big things I feel, very soon.

Doubles Specialist Јеlena Jankovic
Crowd Favourite Victoria Azarenka
Former Tennis Player Petra Kvitová

Sorry then, she ought to have her very first Marbella Slam as soon as possible.

I was so sure Paszek will squeeze to the top 20 in early 2008.And that Makarova was on the rise when getting the Eastbourne crown. But nothing of that happened.

Pironkova has 5 wins over top 10 players (including 3 top 5 wins) at times of their comparatively well series. But she's in slumps most of the time that prevent her of being a consistent top 50 player, let alone a top 20 or top 30 player.

Re: Future top players.

I'm looking forward to the Aza v Woz rival in the future. I think they will play 25 times by the end of their careers.

Caro better offence up and Aza better get her mental shit together though.

Re: Future top players.

Big hopes: Kvitova, Goerges, Jovanovski, Marino, Robson, Mladenovic, Keys

Medium: Oudin, Watson, Halep, Hercog (I don't know how good Hercog can be off of clay...)

Up in the air: Vandeweghe (depends on if she can improve her mental game and movement), McHale (needs to work on consistency)

Only wanted to talk about players that I've seen. The high hopes I think could reach top 10. Medium, top 20-30 at least. Up in the air, could be top 30, but really depends.

Serena Williams ~ Maria Sharapova ~ Venus Williams ~ Jelena Dokic ~ Melanie Oudin ~ Christina McHale

Vandeweghe ~ Mattek-Sands ~ King ~ Hampton ~ Riske ~ Glatch ~ Brengle ~ Rogers ~ Stephens ~ Boserup ~ Davis ~ Keys ~ Lepchenko ~ Falconi ~ Chirico ~ Crawford ~ Gibbs ~ Pegula ~ Min ~ Townsend ~ Duval ~ Vickery ~ Bellis ~ Ahn

Players like Wozniacki, Azarenka, Kvitova, Pavlyuchenkova, Kleybanova should be around for years.

Re: Future top players.

Of the very young guns only Kvitova really impressed me alot already. Will be top 5 once I think.

Of course it doesnt really matter since Chakky is gonna win 'em all in the coming years!

Re: Future top players.

Well, only unconsistency can prevent Kvitova from getting a higher rank, there are slumps and great runs one after another.
Pavlyuchenkova is still too mentally fragile against top players, though she is in the top 20 already.
Azarenka and Kleybanova both have game that can damage themselves in injuries and fatigue.

The one who got a lot of attention cheating in a juniors match recently. And the one she cheated against.
