She is faking it to distract the opposition.

Henin is gritty, scrappy and determined on court. There are very few times that she has actually choked/had mental letdowns in matches, especially in her first career.

She is one of the top mental giants in the women's game.

Then could you explain why she's always affraid on courts, like against Baltacha today.
I also remember that semi final at Wimbledon 2007 against Bartoli where she was like a little cat stalked by a dog !
I mean, she's not that confident, she always seems anxious just like against Sharapova last year at the french open at the beginning of the last.

So in her first career, you can only come up with one match (the worst match of her career) where she was 'afraid'. I'm sure every player has one match where they didn't have that belief for whatever reason.

Post-retirement Justine has made multiple modifications to her game. It makes sense that this can cause anxiety to a professional athlete, especially when matches go close.

And did you say Henin was afraid on the court because of Baltacha?
If being afraid is losing 4 games in a match, maybe I should be afraid when I play lol.

I look afraid before I go out and dance Ballet. In fact, I have not seen a dancer yet who hasn't looked afraid at some point in their performance career. (Usually before dancing Ballet)

But we always dance our best when we are afraid - we concentrate, focus, and take no step, no matter how easy or complex, for granted.

Yes, I know dancing is not that similar to tennis in regards to mental toughness, but you would be surprised at how much dancers go through before they hit the stage.

And, for me, the result is the key for a professional tennis player. It doesn't matter how they look, or how they feel; it's about how they get out of matches with a win, against all odds or scorelines.

Venus demonstrated that today.

Henin's a great fighter but she's not in the Serena Williams category..Venus is the same, she gets nervous too. Serena is the strongest ever.

The announcers are reluctant take a stand, so they talk about players Henin, & others, like Sharapova, Venus, like its still 2007.
Those players arent winning many big matches the last 2 years.

But if you diss a multislam winner, you look bad if they do something

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter....
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there
Enjoy This Moment!!
HEALTH and HAPPINESS to EVERYONE

Re: Why does everybody talk about Henin's mental strengh while she seems affraid on c

Because she's known as the comeback kid and has made several remarkable comebacks (in matches) in her career. Particularly the SF against Capriati at the USO 2003, is a famous example, and was the real starting point for this image. Still one of the longest matches in the history of women's tennis with its 3 hours 3 min. duration, and still being referred to as one of the most beautiful matches ever. In general, even when trailing she is difficult to beat, she'll always fight till the end as she loves the competition.
So in case you're question was really genuine, there is a simple explanation for her image as a real champion and having its fighting spirit accordingly.
