Arina Rodionova had her Aussie Citizenship Application Rejected!!

While no Australians advanced through either qualifying draw, would-be Australian Arina Rodionova plans to appeal the rejection of her application for permanent residency. Rodionova hopes to eventually join her sister, Anastasia, as an Australian citizen.
At 21, Russian-born Arina is ranked 185 in the world and plays Briton Anne Keothavong in the first round.

Re: Arina Rodionova had her Aussie Citizenship Application Rejected!!

It has to be said, Arina has none of her sister's reputation for bad sportsmanship and I can not recall reading a bad word about her on court behaviour.

Additionally the suggestion that either one of them's decision to become an Australian Citizen was based on getting a few WCs is ridiculous. Anastasia Rodionova did get a WC this year for Sydney. It was, unless I am mistaken which I don't think I am, the 1st WC she has received from Tennis Australia. Anastasia also contributed to Australia's Fed Cup win again the Ukraine last April.

Changing nationalities in order to get one or even two possibly WCs a year would in my view be an extraodinarily extreme length to go. I believe the bottom line is that both sisters like living in Australia and speaking as someone who passionately believes in freedom of movement, I personally can not support the decision to refuse Arina Australian citizenship, and I say that as someone who is not on a level a fan of either sister.

Apparently, she is just as nice as Nastya.

I had to just focus on my own game and just leave her to whatever she wanted to do. I felt like I was very focused out there, and I felt like I handled, uhm, the situation fairly well.

Q. She had a go at one of the ball girls.

ANNE KEOTHAVONG: Did she (smiling)? I'm not going to say anything.

Not true
Go and read the comments in the Keothavong def. ARINA Rodinova thread

Re: Arina Rodionova had her Aussie Citizenship Application Rejected!!

OMG...I can't believe they refused her!!

Well, even though she can be a bit 'firey' on court, Arina is a really lovely girl!!! She's incredibly funny, intelligent and very quick witted. Her and Nastya have lived in Australia for a long time now and they both love it there!!! So her application for citizenship has nothing to do with wildcards, they just love Australia and want to represent them.

(Besides that, we all know how many players represent Russia, so not much chance to play Fed Cup, Olympics etc...I don't blame any of them wanting to play for a different country if it gives them a chance to play those type of events)

Hope Arina gets her citizenship second time around
