Welldone Justine and Kim .

Shame Serena didnt win as many MM's (Tier3/4 and international tournaments) as the others, or it would've been much higher. Also proud of her for not quitting when the going got tough

Also I think Serena has the better overall win-loss record.

Good job compiling the stats.

But this is really like inside baseball, where they have a dzzying of category of stats, and baseball really cares about them.

Int tennis, when you career is over, it the grand total titles is that count, not how fast you obtain them.

Nonetheless, nice compilation.

Re: Justine & Kim win their titles faster than other players this generation

What's the difference between these two?

Best Rate ever had winning tournaments over their career and the year end they did it:

Best Rate in a single year winning tournaments and the year (minimum 5 tournament played):

Anyway, thanks for the stats. However it would be interesting to know how they would be without their 2 year retirements in between.

To answer your 1st question:

Taking their best rate in a single year means the rate at which they won their titles in just that year. I think the big 5 are the Williams, the Belgians and Martina. All these players had a year where they won more than 50% of the tournaments they played that year. Some very high numbers posted in their best year.

The best rate they've had for their career is different. Justine and Kim have the best rates of any players I've done for their career as of now. But if we go back to say the end of 2003 and if I'd done this then - so that's for all the matches a player has played up to 2003 - that's the figure we get. My complete spreadsheet I did on my PC contains what each of these player's career rate of winning was at the end of each year they played. As you can see - at the end of 2003 - Serena's rate of racking up titles in her career up to then (not just in 2003) was 32.86% - very high - but it's not going to be the sort of rate racked up just for the best year.

Your last question is a what if Kim and and Justine hadn't retired. During their absence of course - the rates stay the same because they are not playing. If they had played is a subjective call but IMO I'm 99% certain their rates would have nosedived. They were in no shape mentally to play at their standard, and wanted to stop playing and had no intention then of playing again.

What I would say is above 25% is pretty high and going to be pretty difficult to sustain.Venus once had a rate of over 29%, Serena of over 32%. They've dropped 7% since then. Matina dropped 4% in less than 2 years as a result of her comeback. I think Justine may have her work cut out to sustain that very high rate of 30.28% she has now. The higher your rate - the more often you need to win to sustain it. Linndsay though was pretty remarkable how she maintained her rate right till the end. Only 21.88% but just stayed like that and it didn't dip at all despite the many years she was playing.

Caroline Wozniacki

Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters

Wow, you feel so insecure just because Serena doesn't own all statistics even though she is easily the best of her generation. How classy.

Give back 2006 US Open to Justine

Those first 3 categories show why I am tough on Capriati sometimes. With her talent she should have done alot better than that, particularly in the tournaments won stat. I stiill cant believe she won only 14 tournaments.

And in the end, the only statistic that will really matter is 13/16 for Serena. 81.25%
