Prize money; ranking points are the difference in Tier1/Tier2.

Most events, except Grand Slams [except US Open]; have a 3rd set tiebreak. Actually, I can't think of any event that doesn't have a 3rd set breaker, other then Australian Open; Roland Garros; Wimbledon

its huge actually. here's the difference in ranking points:

$2,000,000 (I)	325	228	146 81 45 28	16	1
$1,325,000 (I)	300	210	135 75 42 25 1
$1,224,000 (I)	275	193	124 69 38 23 1

$650,000 (II)	220	154 99 55 29 15 1
$585,000 (II)	195	137 88 49 25 14 1
you'll also notice that the highest tier II value of prize money is about $650,000 (there are a few higher). and then the tier I, the lowest amount is over a million. that's a huge difference. that's why usually tier Is have really strong qualifying draws which reflects the strength of the main draw. and if you look at a tier V, that has prize money of about $110,000, a lot less than a tier I or II. hope that helps

Lindsay Davenport - Anna Smashnova - Lisa Raymond - Sandrine Testud - Paola Suarez - Amelie Mauresmo - Virginia Ruano-Pascual - Nadia Petrova - Chanda Rubin - Cara Black - Tathiana Garbin - Anne Kremer - Monica Seles - Fabiola Zuluaga - Maria Sanchez-Lorenzo - Amanda Coetzer - Rita Grande - Meghann Shaughnessy - Magui Serna - Nathalie Dechy - Kim Clijsters - Elena Tatarkova - Maria Sharapova - Alicia Molik - Julia Vakulenko - Elena Likhovtseva - Anastasia Myskina - Emilie Loit

Also, most/all Top 10 plays Tier I, while only a selection of the Top 10 plays Tier II. The WTA 'promises' a certain # of Top players at Tier I and a lower number at Tier II's to keep the sponsors happy, to sell more tickets, and to make more $.
