This dress style is messing up Venus' serve.

Someone is quietly turning back the clock...to them bulldozer dayz...

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.

Re: USO R4: (3) Williams d. Peer 76 63!

That was not pretty at all. I know that a lot of it had to do with the wind. Venus just didn't seem to have confidence in her serve because of the wind. It seemed to make her very nervous. But, sometimes you gotta win ugly. She will have to up her level though because Schiavone is very crafty. Nonetheless....she's in the last 8. Congrats Queen Vee.

Re: USO R4: (3) Williams d. Peer 76 63!

I'm not holding it against Venus... but she has been gifted quite a nice draw. Two qualifiers, Peer (5-0 H2H), and now Schiavone (7-0 H2H). Hoping she can make good with it and make the final!! She played pretty well today. The dress seemed uncomfortable.. which kinda defeats some of the purpose. But keep on marching forward Vee

Shahar was fantastic. Really fun to watch. Good effort on her part to make the 4th Round and challenge Venus

Nice match all around.

Venus so proud of your 2010 season even though I'm still not over that loss to Na Li

Made 4R or better at every slam this year and defended points from last year..It can only get better

Good luck against Franny please serve well

Venus . Really interesting match. I was surprised that Shahar played so well. Venus had some really poor shots but also a lot winners. I think she wasn't at her best by far but still played well. Keep improving Vee!

Well I got what I asked for, a 7-6 set. Next time maybe we'll work on winning one Shahar. Good job on making it this far. Congrats Venus.

Re: USO R4: (3) Williams d. Peer 76 63!

That was the best Venus has moved this USO. Peer was actually upping the pace on her groundstrokes (sometimes beyond her own capacity), and was pushing Venus deep into the corners. Must be pleasing from her perspective that she was making tight, energetic runs and lunges out of the corners, using her exemplary footspeed better than she has all tournament.

Venus's serve was erratic, but her forehand was able to steady itself throughout high-paced exchanges, and her added power and leverage on that wing really created a gulf in shot-making ability by the end. Venus's level rose from 5/10 to 8/10 in the space of the tie-break. Impressive in the clutch moments considering her inactivity, and the momentum Peer seemed to have after holding in that epic 5-6 game.

Peer was using her forehand more aggressively than i've ever seen it. Risky of course, because her technique actually can't sustain such bludgeoning intentions, but it was a worthy challenge. Her return of serve was mighty impressive too in patches, using the pace of Venus's serve well to assert herself immediately in the rally. I just felt as the match wore on, Shahar's length started to drop, and Venus smelled blood. As soon as Shahar's forehand starts drifting in the service box, any elite ball-striker will trample all over her.

Fantastic attitude from both Peer though, and commited herself in a big match better than she has for years. Some thrilling rallies which made for the best women's match thus far.

I love your insightful reports and I love that you love Joni Mitchell, only this afternoon I had "both sides now" on replay.
