What's the best a nation of players has done at their home tournament?

Looking at the Palermo draw, I see 5 Italians in the 2nd round, and I see that if they all win 5/8 quarterfinalists could be Italian Unlikely, but it still got me thinking:

Is there a tournament you remember in the past where the home players did really well? I'm more talking about smaller tournaments, so Serena and Venus in the US Open final doesn't really count

I used to list my favorite tennis players here...
...then they all retired.
I used to keep track of my rankings in fantasy games here...
...then I realized how much I suck.
I used to update this signature, once in a while...
...then I realized no one actually reads it.

Re: What's the best a nation of players has done at their home tournament?

Palermo would be better with Schiavone, Garbin, and Vinci
What about Szavay winning Budapest two years in a row after losing in R1 at Wimbledon

Daniilidou. Venus. Azarenka. Halep. Wickmayer.
Cornet. Ivanovic. Vesnina.. Vaidisova. Krajicek.
Paszek. Begu. Cirstea. Lisicki. Pavlyuchenkova.
Pironkova. Stephens. Tatishvili. McHale. Flipkens.
Grammatikopoulou ~ Papamichail ~ Sakkari
I'm obsessed with the Greek players. Deal with it.

I don't remember the men's results, but the Russian women at Beijing 2008 swept the medals. However, I thought everyone played horible at the Olympics. Everyone!

Re: What's the best a nation of players has done at their home tournament?

Look at some of the 70s or 80s results at the US Open when US players made up more than 70% of the top 100 - there's probably at least one with 100% US quarter-finalists.
