Anna Smashnova......

Ok i am so sick and tired of everyone bashing her saying,oh she doesnt deserve to be in LA and she s only got a lot of points because of those small events,etc...

Well she defintaley deserves it,as well as her rank, true she sucked in the slams(though she didnt really loose to anyone bad in the slams!!)she HAS done well in big tier events!!!!

QFs in Indian Wells, like a slam itself
3rd at Key biscayne including win over Justine
3rd at Charleston including win over Jelena
Semis in Berlin with wins over in-form Kim and Daniela
QFs in San diego with win over Elena
and even now in Zurich she got an nice win over Chanda!

when i saw she was planning to play the full indoor schedule i was really nervous for her.........in nine previous matches on indoor carpet, she had ONE win..........if there was a time this year that i had doubts for her, this was it...
but with a win over Patty and now Chanda, she really exceeded my (and hopefully her own) expectations. It really goes to show you how much a positive attitude can go, as she's worked SO hard both physically and mentally this year at a game that she could be (and has been historically) overpowered by.
Now if she can knock off Justine, then i'll be absolutely amazed (not to mention thrilled!).
She has already locked herself for LA (at least i'm 99% sure) so she should hopefully be able to relax a bit and just enjoy the rest of the season (one which she usually skips, or isnt present for).
Kudos to Anna for a spectacular year! (that's still yet to be finished!)

Anna has surprised me with these wins indoors! Her season has been very impressive, and I hope you are right, spotsyboy, that she has qualified for LA.

i say she is not deserving
she was seeded in slams losing in 1st rounds
in a row and that is just not acceptable

the draw in Indian Wells is a lot weaker than the Slams...
remember even Hantuchova could win the tournament
without upsetting a lot of players, reaching QF is not that big,
try reaching QF in Key Biscayne, 6th largest event on tour

3rd round in Tier I proves nothing for TOP 16 players
QF in Tier II is not good enough,
maybe SF in Berlin is a good showing,
but let's not forget Clarisa got to Semi in French,
look where it got her..outside TOP 30!?....
the sudden success does prove a lot, u've got to be consistent,
one tournament proves nothing.....

having about half of her points,
from Tier III or lower tournaments,
that tells u a lot about her,
she is gold exempt status next yr,
so she has to join Tier II or III tournaments only next yr,
look how far she can go next yr.....
either she has to take up Dokic and Myskina's way of playing,
overplaying that is to keep her in top ranking,
or she has to hope for a really good draw like the one
in big tournaments to avoid early round loss,

about her records against top player
Dokic is easily upset,
IMO, the wins over Henin, Clijster and Daniela
do give her nice quality points,
but Henin is weak, Clijster likes to lose
and Dani back then chokes sometimes,
so maybe she was good back then on clay,
but, i just dont think she will crack top 10, i mean ever,
coz she is about 1000 pts behind them,
that's a different of 2 Grand Slams Championship....
i am guessing this is as good as it gets for her...

who says she's not worthy of L.A.??? give us names MakarovaFan. they will know the rath of the Israelis . (I think fhkung was putting Anna down, but frankly his post was confusing, and I'm just not sure. consider yourself warned, punk. Anna is all we have, and you insult her at your own risk)
