Re: Budapest R1: Anna Chakvetadze def. Mariya Koryttseva 62 60

Anna played pretty well, it was a convincing win. I'm glad that Anna has gone back to moving the ball around the court instead of just an all-out aggressive strategy that she was employing a couple of years ago. Initially, I found Anna's ballstriking to be rather tentative and it really got her in trouble. Mariya, clearly was going to be the aggressor and take charge of points, and when she has the time to go for her shots, she can be dangerous. However, once Anna put Mariya on the move just that little bit, it was advantage Anna. Mariya's movement is piss poor. After holding and consolidating the break, Anna was executing so much better and there were signs of vintage Chakvetadze. She was opening up the courts with angles, moving the ball around the court, and creating opportunities for herself to be aggressive, it was nice to see. And of course a couple of drop shots from inches behind the baseline It didn't help that Mariya couldn't hold serve to save her life but Anna was returned great. I loved to see her take such an aggressive stance when returning. She was right on top of the baseline on first serves and a couple of inches inside the baseline on second serves

Obviously, ChakAttack is going to have to step it up even more against ClayGOAT Dulgheru. But I think she has a good shot if she's willing and is executing her game well. Come on, Anna!

Oh, and that first drop shot on her first match point was vintage BRAINLESS Anna.

I’d like to take Roddick’s serve, Gonzales’s forehand… As well as Federer’s backhand and mental. Then I’d be world number 1, easy! No one could beat me.

Agreed. Poor movement, once you get her on the move she can't really do much with the ball. Her serve is quite poor too. I did think she tried to fight out there, but she thought a little one-dimensionally out there.

I do think when Anna was leaving the ball hanging, she striked the ball quite well. But the ball isn't going to be hanging every point obviously.

Re: Budapest R1: Anna Chakvetadze def. Mariya Koryttseva 62 60

such a clean match from anna. her 2 main weapons the backhand DTL and crosscourt forehand angle were back looking like real weapons. her movement continues to improve to.

you could see her confidence grow through the match, and her ball striking got more solid and strong as it went on. a moral boosting win.

Good win for Anna, finally she plays well from the first point to the last, without making tons of errors.

Next Match will be interesting against a good clay specialist like Dulgheru.
