It is just about slams for Serena till her career ends

I was struck by the fact that right after she won she counted on her hands and showed it to her people the 13 lucky number. I just read her post-match interview and she just said that she wants to give back, bring more schools in Africa, make people happier (I paraphrase) etc, that it matters more than how many slams you win. But to me that's just PR. Next step : catch up with Nav/Evert's 18 slams.

5 more majors at 28 is a large task, but Serena is the breaker of the rules. She does want it, not sure she can get it, but she will get close.

Well it's got to be, she doesn't win WTA events, what else should she go for, ITFs?

Slams are the ones that matter. She's got the right idea frankly, Serena could get away with only playing the slams and have a chance at every one.

If that's her choice.

She's opened up two schools on the continent of Africa. Why would you dismiss her desire to help others as PR?

two more years like the last two and she might just catch up with Martina and Chris. That would put her at 30 years old when catching them. Certainly doable. But, can she stick with it for that long?

I still think she should win another grass court tournament to prove Wimbledon wasn't a fluke. She could enter ITF Nottingham if she gets dumped out of Roland Garros early enough!

She's won Wimbledon 4 times. I know you're a troll, but I'm board before I go to this 4th of July cookout.

Re: It is just about slams for Serena till her career ends

If Serena stays healthy and as focused as she's been the last few years I think she has an awesome chance of meeting the Navratilova/Evert 18 slams, especially if she wins this year's US Open.

Re: It is just about slams for Serena till her career ends

Yes, if she gets #14 at this year's US Open her chances of catching Nav/Evert are actually high. Remember her current slam-winning rate includes injuries, the odd choke and flame out. As long as she's hungry and focused, even if she were to slow down, she'd be a contender for slams for another 4 years.

Someone is quietly turning back the clock...to them bulldozer dayz...

Always on the lookout for a great tennis match.

She can catch up to Martina/Chris, but even if she doesn't it does not matter. Serena, to me, is the Greatest Female Tennis Player ever!!

Venus Williams - 7 Time Major Champion

Oh I don't dismiss that at all. I mean, read between the lines. Like when she said before the final : "I've got nothing to lose". That's just fake humility. And I'm sure that it's hard for her to find the right balance between achieving in tennis and her other activities. More power to her.
