The Best Marriage between Player and Surface

This has been a topic that's been on my mind for a while. What do you guys think is the best fit for player/surface? You know, it's like when this player steps on this surface they are unbeatable. My vote would be fore Chris Evert and clay; not only did she win 7 French Opens, but she won 125 straight matches on it, and no one has come close since then. Thoughts? Comments?

Wingis or Davenport indoors deserves a spot in the poll.

The best marriage between a player and a surface is Steffi Graf and tennis court.

Re: The Best Marriage between Player and Surface

Tough one, as they all make great combinations. But I went for grass/Graf because it's really one of the more underrated ones. Graf's baseline game was most beautiful on grass. The combination of athleticism/speed/footwork/penetrating flat shots made her game look the best there. She could also occasianely come up with nice variety with drop shots, lobs and net attacks.

I considered a "Steffi Graf and all surfaces" option because she won so much everywhere.

What surfaces? They really didn't have one that stood out to me. Maybe Hingis and hard courts? Idk.

I think some were played on hard or at least switched from carpet to hard depending of the year.

Safina and indoor grass. She's the only woman unbeaten on it.

In all seriousness, Evert on clay.

Re: The Best Marriage between Player and Surface

@ most people saying evert on clay, yet only one voting for her in the poll

Serena on Hard.

I think with her serve and her athleticism, her power, her court mobility, I just think when she’s on, she’s the greatest player we’ve ever seen, ever. Now, whether her record is the greatest remains to be seen because she hasn’t retired yet. But I think she is really the greatest player. I have seen Martina and Steffi at their best. There are little chinks in those players’ armor, but it was a different era, where you didn’t need to be the perfect player.
