Serve and Volley......

Is there anyone who is a serve and volley type player on WTA?
Badanova is doing that a lot more often now,
but IMO, she doesnt have big enough serve to back it up,
and i dont really see her playing too much double,
or is she just not doing well in doubles?
Tauziat is a pretty good one, and no doubt Martina N too,
but nowadays, there is none...............
is there anyone else turning into one on WTA?

Who do you think will do a lot better if they turn
into serve and volley players?
Well, IMO, Stevenson has a big enough serve
and she kinda proved she could volley when she played
double w/ Serena, but her speed to the net? that is the question
2nd person is probably Anna K, superb volley,
inconistent ground strokes, and when she goes for the serve,
it's a better than some of the others on the tour (Demetieva etc.)
and 3rd person, i will have to say Hingis,
#1 in the world, perfect volley, if she becomes stronger during
her break and retools her serve while maintaining her speed,
maybe she can come back a serve and vollyer,
and last person will be Lucic, she is just inconsistent
on her groundstrokes, but her serve is pretty big,
since she is pretty strong too, maybe that kinda
game will be good for her?
Do you think turning into a serve and volleyer
can do well on WTA nowadays?

when Kournikova is on she could do whatever she wants with the ball especially her net play is so smooth, that's why she was #1 in doubles, but it is rare to see an ON kournikova. but yes if she is more consistent, she would be a greta serve volleyer, or at least a great all court player!

Surprisingly enough, Daniela H. once listed her game as "serve and volley" but ,c'mon, she's more on dropshots and groundstrokes than serve and volley.

Since September 2002:
33 singles titles
33 doubles titles
7 mixed doubles titles
7 Fed Cup titles

Debut record: 14 out of 24

excuse me but bovina, molik, bielik, serena all serve volley nowadays.

Hantuchova has the skill to do it

mauresmo is starting to serve volley as is henin when she gets the chance.

raymond serve volleys.

what are you talking about?

Go the aussies! stosur!!!
and good luck russians: dementieva, safina, kirilenko, sharapova, kuznetsova, bovina, zvonareva, dushevina.

also good luck to: azarenka, lucic, sprem, vakulenko, vaidisova, safarova, ivanovic, groenefeld, mirza, krajicek, kvitkova, larcher de brito, lisicki.

Sorry, i kinda forgot about Raymond....
but IMO, Bovina isnt really a "pure" serve and volleyer,
and i never really saw Molik's match before,
Now you mention Bielik, i kinda remembered her match in US,
big serve, but i didnt really see her volleying against Henin,

So i guess maybe becoming serve and vollyer is a good idea,
rather than exchanging ground strokes with the
big big Williams, maybe net play is a better way
to play against them then?

no bielik didn't serve volley that much in the henin match but she did in her other two.

as for bovina, she has the groundies good as well so why not use them. she has an all-court game and thats what a player needs these days. besides her goal in the US Open was to serve volley a lot more and look where it got her, to the quarter-finals.

so i agree that it is the way to go against the big girls

one strange phenomenom,
serve and volleyers should do well on Wimbledon,
but Tauziat, as a serve and volleyers,
got to the final of RO on clay,
which is the worst possible surface for them.
But in Wimbledon, the Williams seem to completely
abondon net play and just use their
powerful and i mean POWERFUL ground strokes
to slash their opponenets.....
i dont know, i just hope someone can find their
weakness, and hopefully serve and volley is the way
to take Williams off from their reign.....

Who said Serena is a serve/volleyer? That's the biggest joke I've ever heard! Capriati? Um, no.

No current top player actually does it on a regular basis, other than Lisa Raymond, and surprisingly enough Amelie Mauresmo as of late.

Sure other players throw it in, but consistently, those two.

Daja Bedanova was doing it, but I haven't seen her play in awhile--and her game seems to change with the season.

i think the weakness for the williams sisters is to play an all court game. if a player keeps doing the same thing then venus and serena get use to it and get better at destroying it. i think if a player can mix up bigs serves where they have to strectch, moving them around the court, big groundies and serve and volleying then a player can beat them as long as the player does not stick with one of these things for a big amount of time. this way venus and serena can't get a rhythem or into there groove

Perhaps, but one match doesn't make her a serve/volleyer. If she does it every match, I'll change my mind

i was merely stating that she could be starting to play more of an all-court game

Els Callens and Lisa Raymond like to mix it up with serve and volley regular.

Sometimes Mauresmo does it too

A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.
